Well worth a walk, but mainly touristy type things. There are a few nice shops!

Great lot of shopping to do in downtown playa, but if you get off 5th avenue ( where all the tourist shops are and its more expensive) and head to 10th avenue, shops selling the same things are so much cheaper, don't forget to barter too, its expected and great fun !!

I'd add that I'd try and avoid going when the cruise ships are docked as it's not only very busy downtown, but the prices also tend to increase. Head down in an evening when it's cooler, not as busy, cheaper and the bars come alive so it's a great evening out.

How many avenues of shopping is there? Getting from 5th to 10th is it walkable?

Derwentrocker,

5th Avenue is a fair walk from one end to the other with rows of shops on both sides along with bars and restaurants. It depends how many bags you end up with! It's certainly walkable in an evening though. I never ventured much off 5th Avenue, but pretty much everything is down that one strip. Aviod when the cruise ships are in, prices are inflated and it's like the M25 at rush hour! 10th Avenue is maybe 5 minutes walk inland.
