Hi topofthetower

I will try and answer some of your concerns,
people are telling me bad things like its filthy dont go in shops alone they will nick ya money this happened to our travel agent

Filthy, no it is relatively clean, as it is beside the desert you will have some sand blowing in occasionally but it is not any dirtier than any other resort in any other country.

Shop keepers will hassle you and try to get you in to their shops to buy something but if you don't want to buy just say no and leave or just keep walking, no problem, they certainly won't steal your money. If you decide you want to buy an item you have to haggle hard and get the price a long way down.

they will nick ya money this happened to our travel agent
:think and your travel agent let you book, mmmm.

people say they are horrible people
:que In what way? the Egyptians are hard working, mainly honest humans whose country YOU are visiting as a guest, so you may have to make some exceptions if their customs and manners are not exactly the same as here in the UK.

is it safe to walk about
perfectly safe, probably safer than back here.

i feel our silver wedding will be spoilt
I don't see why, go with an open mind and decide for yourself if you like it or not, don't listen to others opinions just because they didn't like it.

If you read through a lot of the various posts on here you will see that there are many people who go time after time and love it.

I am sure you will get more replies just to put your mind at rest so don't let it worry you.

Hi there, TOTT  We went to Sharm for the first time this year, and had a fantastic time. The hotel, and the resort, were much cleaner than some others I have stayed in, so no worries there.
As for stealing, unfortunately there are pickpockets, etc., everywhere, even at home, so just be sensible & exercise the usual amount of care, and you shouldn't have a problem.
Horrible people? Not in my experience, although some of the shopkeepers were a bit over zealous in trying to get people into their shops, but nothing that came anywhere close to spoiling the holiday - a firm "No" will do the trick 99/100 times.
All in all, I'd have no hesitation in going back, or in recommending Sharm to friends & family. Relax, go & enjoy your anniversary. :cheers

WE are of to Sharm in a few Days for the third time guess where Albatros Aqua Blu which has had some seriously good reports but don't forget there ar two hotels called Aqua Blu the other is nearer Sharks Bay compared to the Albatros which is nearer old Sham

Sharm is not dirty compared to say Venice which I found decrepid and dirty (and not just the small of the canals)

the hotels are mostly AI now although B&B etc still available but at least the are AI all day and most of the night un-like Spain where after 10:30 you pay for everything

The folk are the friendliest we've met yes the shopkeeper give you lots of banter to get you to buy but there's only so much Papyrus you need ;) We found the hotel staff far more reliable than say Dom Rep where my birthday presents were stolen OK it was only a mug but that's not the point.

As for stealing (pick pockets) Sharm is certainly better than Benidorm where they cruise the airport arrival hall in packs just take normal precautions

Sharm airport is flat -- everything is on one level the second phase should be open now so may be able to tell you more at the end of November

Good places to visit

Fantasia for a show
Old Sharm for the buzz of the souk
Pick carefully from the trips there are some good ones to Bedhouin camps with the chance to look through some serious telescopes out in the Desert
There's Ras Mohamed for snorkelling - you do need a visa for this and you HAVE to take your passport
Neamma for the brashness and good eating think Chinese / Indian / Japanese Tapanyaki / Swiss Fondue /Swiss Ice Cream / Hard Rock Cafe/ Russian / Mexican / there's Egyptian too but the call that a wierd name that I can't remember -- oh yes :cry McD's too don't think you'll be going to Pacchas or the bus stop though ;)

One Place to MISS COMPLETELY is Dolphinella we have been trying to get this terrible place closed down for years the pens are tiny and there are stories of abuse to the animals they did have an Orca but it died in strange circumstances there's a thread here

Hi topofthetower

The airport at Sharm isn't particularly big in anyway but you will have a bit of standing about for Visa, passport control, baggage etc.

If you are not going to be doing any excursions to areas outside Sinai (Red sea area!!!) you will not have to purchase a Visa as you enter, just write Sinai only on the back of the landing card that will be given to you on the plane.

Excursions from Sharm can be found HERE

Remember that if you are going to go on one of the long distance excursions to Cairo or Luxor etc you will need the Visa, more info HERE

Remember to haggle when you are out away from you hotel, this includes taxis if you have to take one, agree the price in Egyptian pounds (LE) prior to getting in, make sure that it is the cost for all the group not per person.

You will find that prices out there are a bit cheaper than back home, not just as cheap as they were a few years ago with the value of the £ having dropped.
