I stayed in Sharm Nov 2005, we stayed just outside Naama Bay and found taxis very cheap into town though scary drivers made the journey "interesting" at times!!!
We went B&B and found eating out really cheap. We had 6 teenagers with us including veggies/fussy/junk fans. They loved Hard Rock Cafe where a meal for 8 of us averaged around £40/50 with drinks. This was about the most expensive place we ate at. A few of us ate in Old Sharm where a meal was around £2/3.
My friend found drinks expensive as she only like premium brands, £4 for a brandy, whereas I'm a cheap date on the local brew or beer. Depends what you like. We were usually tired after a long day and in bed early so can't comment on the nightlife.
We all loved the warm sea and snorkelling was amazing, can't wait to go again.
Hope you have a fantastic holiday whatever you decide to do.
