Hullsmoggy - don't wish to be indelicate, but....no stool sample done, from your description? (have I missed something?). If not, insist on one. You've had every other sample done, so why are they missing this out?

Yes I did have one taken when they did my first blood tests. Am feeling a lot better now so maybe whatever I had has had enough of me

11 lbs lost now as well

Hope your recovery continues and you feel back to normal soon, Hullsmoggy :)

Hi

First time to Goa and been reading the posts on this thread. If we need it is there a medical centre close to Candolim. Also what is meant by the usual injection and tablets?

Thanks for the help

Not long to go before we travel

There's loads of info on what you need to do here

If you are going soon you need to get it sorted ASAP

If you are ill, there are plenty of chemist shops !
Hopefully you won't be !

If you haven't had your injections yet this NHS Scotland website gives you excellent advice http://www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk/home.aspx

Had a bad dose this year and was ill for 3 days. I think I should start following the advice about washing and sterilising your hands.

The more I think about it I was handling money shaking hands etc then eating. Very silly really.

Been feeling really poorly for almost a month now. Thought it was a touch of flu but can't seem to shake it off and loosing weight too. I've been back from Goa a while now (29th Jan) and wasn't poorly there so I never gave it a thought but after reading these posts I'm not so sure. Off back to doctors tomorrow so think I'll ask them to do a blood test just in case. Where would we be without this forum!

Hope everyone is feeling better soon x

Hi all,

Came back from Goa on the 01 March, and was really ill while in Goa. The first week was like a very sore stomach, like a knot right under the chest bone, got tablets from the chemist, but didnt really help, rep wanted to get doctor but wasnt bad enough for that. By the end of the first week was feeling lots better. However, the second week I was out, had a lovely meal, got back to hotel, and during the night had the worst time ever, running to the toilet with sickness, then back to the toilet with dihorrea (however you spell it), that went on all night very severe cramps in stomach, had to get doctor, he said he thought it was food poisoning, two injections in one side of me and one in the other, and lots of tablets to take.

My sister was also bad she had the doctor the first week. It was her first time in Goa too!!! However the rest of the party was fine. My husband and I kind of ate much of the same thing, and he was great the whole fortnight.

I just wonder what happened as last year didnt have a single problem and normally when I go abroad anywhere, I have an upset stomach of some kind, must have a delicate stomach! so was quite surprised when last year didnt have anything at all.

However, not put me off booked again for next year!!!

Glad you feeling better Jemajo, you and your sister didn,t happen to be having ice with your drink,s while the lads were drinking beer, if you were that could explain why your O/H were O/K. Glad to hear it has not put you off going back. We will be there for a month next Feb (God being Good) Hope you have a great time when you go, we might even see you there.

Hi Preacher

Yes we did have ice, but we always asked and were told that it was bought in ice??

How did your trip go on the houseboad on the Tuesday? It sounded like it would have been a great trip.

Back at hospital tomorrow for check up and blood test results but am feeling back to normal now. Whatever it was has gone out of my system now. Good excuse to go into work late though.

Hope everyone else who was ill are feeling better now. Still kept the weight off though.

Thanks Chilly and everybody else for the kind thoughts, i get my results back tomorrow from the doctors to see if the ecoli infection has gone, i have had that many antibiotics they are making me feel ill. Still not back at work since my vacation to Goa and the sad thing is i have felt to ill to be constructive in the house, so done nothing even though there is plenty to be done. Finger crossed the infection is clear than i hopefully will be allowed back to work. :thanks

I was also poorly while on holiday, got antibiotics from the chemist and completed the course but to be honest I still don't feel that great. Thankfully I am not off my feet but I don't have much of an appetite and tummy is still feeling delicate (although I haven't now got the trots or pain). If I am no better after the weekend I will see my GP and get sorted out - fed up with feeling under par.

Glad to learn Hullsmoggy is better from whatever it was and I hope Fizzy, Nightnurse and all the other walking wounded are soon back to normal.

Anybody without the Goa addiction would read this thread and wonder why the hell we all keep going back! Malaria, Dengue, food poisoning, stomach cramps and the new one on me, Chikunguny - thanks for that one Goan Girl! It's a bit like some sort of endurance test for determined holiday makers! Last man standing and all that!

We do use hand steriliser but we don't always remove shoes - think we'll start next year. I was really ill after returning a few years ago and had all the tests at hospital etc. It's really depressing when you just can't shake it off - in my case it was pneumonia (a fairly mild case, as they go) and probably nothing to do with Goa. Scary, though.

Anyway, hope you're all better soon and no doubt we'll all bump into each other at the chemists next year! :rofl
