Hi there, can anyone provide some info for me?
We are taking a short break to Porto at the end of March and would like to know the best way to get from the airport to our hotel, we arrive at about 9pm, would a cab be very expensive? Our hotel is about 12 kms away. Would it be possible to take a train directly to sao Bento station from the airport?
Is it expensive to eat out in Porto? Any tips on what to see and do would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
No, there aren't any trains from the airport to town. We will have the "metro" ready someday though
You could use the airport bus to your hotel, I know it delivers you where you'll be staying and it costs around 5 euros.
If you're going to some hotel near the train station "S. Bento", the taxi will cost you around 20/25 euros (depends on the hour, if it gets past 10 pm it's more expensive).
About eating out in Porto, depending on what kind of restaurant you chose, of course, you will spend from 5 euros (lunchtime in small restaurants downtown with great cooking, like at home, in weekdays) to 20 euros per head (restaurants like those you'll find in Cais de Gaia or Gaia Peer, on the other side of the river - great food too!).
I'm not the best person to tell you what to see or do since I live here and I take most things as natural, I don't have the "eyes" of a tourist lol but most tourists seem to enjoy all the old town, which is near the same train station you mentioned. From there you'll discover the old Cathedral by the Eiffel bridge "D. Luis", the river side and the old port wine houses, including the cellars on the Gaia side. Near Igreja de S. Francisco (church) - at the end of the street that goes down in front of S. Bento train station - you can get an american car that follows along the river towards the sea, where you will also see the 18th century houses and others more recent and expensive (a fancy side of town)...
Well, there are a lot of things to see and do, I'm sure other tourists can help you. I'll be going to Paris at that time lol so I'll be in a similar situation as yours and I need to find a forum LOL
