Mine came well within the two weeks- infact it took less than a week. Get down to the PO and they do the checks for you- saves the worry of something being wrong with your application. Make sure your hair is not covering eyebrows as they can be fussy and not accept the photo. I would get it all done and away tomorrow though.

You won't have any problems entering Spain or returning to the UK with just 5months left on your passport, it's whether the airline or tour company you are travelling with has it's own rules, often they set a six month validity period.

I fly with jet2 without a tour company, i'm going to risk on renewing the passport 3 weeks should cover it
