I see from doing a search that there are loads of topics where people have been talking about debit cards...but i cant seem to find what i want.
If I take my UK Maestro card (Royal Bank of Scotland), will i be able to get money out of the ATM's? And is it just a case of using my UK PIN number?
Sorry for being so thick! Flying out in 6 days time, just got my Euros and cheques today, but am a bit paranoid that i might run out. Especially if me and the wee one do the Pirates Show etc, all seem a bit pricey!!
Look forward to hearing from anyone else who will be there next week!
you can use your debit card for straight POS transactions and your PIN will be the same....HOWEVER the RBS recentley announced a charge of 5% on ALL P.O.S transactions (basically if you use that RBS card to pay for your perfume at Palma Airport they'll slap a charge on)
Your PIN throughout Europe and the world will remain the same as it is in the UK
Using a cashpoint will incur a handling fee from your bank (unless you have a Nationwide Flex Account as they are the only UK bank not to charge for cash machine withdrawals, although Abbey no longer charge at Banco Santander cashpoints) At the last check I think there was a 5% levy on cash withdrawals.
You can use the number and get cash out BUT you WILL be charged! Open a Nationwide account, stick a quid in it and transfer your holiday money in and you'll save a bundle and you normally get a fantastic exchange rate.
You've got 6 days so I'd seriously recommend getting a Nationwide account, sticking some cash in and transferring your hols money into it.
I agree about the Nationwide, I think everyone should open account with them if only to save for their holidays,it might make the other banks follow suit regarding charges. But in this case I dont think 6 days would be enough time to recieve your card, you would have to check with Nationwide.
Is there a Banco Santander in Puerto Pollensa, if so I will make sure our spending money is in my Abbey account
Checked with my bank, and they will charge me 2% for any withdrawals on my debit card whilst i am over there. At least its there as a backup.
3 days to go, AND COUNTING! The weather here in Scotland is horrendous just now, I want to go away NOW!!!
PS.....Anyone from this forum going to be in Palma Nova next week?
