Not sure about the first leg you will have to do but a coach from Barcelona takes 90 mins to get to Salou. The train, i think takes around 40-45 mins.
The train probably will be the easiest option, less hassle.

Having stayed in Calella a few years ago I did roughly the same trip and it took around 2 and half hours if you time the trains properly. You do have to change trains twice however. Once at Mataro and again at Barcelona Sant. I suggest you check out the RENFE website for train tabletables etc as the trains from Barcelona to Salou are not that frequent after mid morning. I would therefore advise you to make an early start.
