Hi,:D

Going to Amarco De Perra on August 10th for 16 nights with family and friends. We have 4 teenagers between us ranging from 13- 18, can anyone suggest any ideas of where or what we can do with them, other than going to the beach.
Also any nice eating places anyone could suggest would also be appreciated. It will be my birthday whilst we are there so somewhere nice to go for that too.

There's a couple of theme parks not far away if any or all of them are interested. Zoomarine, Slide 'n Splash come to mind. They have websites in English at http://www.zoomarine.com and, well the other one seems to have vanished!

There is also the Sand Sculpture Park at Algoz/Pera, never got round to going to this place myself but well worth a visit so i'm told. Open June to October. Cheers Jayjan

Thanks folks for the replys, will check them out. We will be hiring a car for the 2 weeks we are there so dont mind venturing out to places. The sand art sounds interesting.

Re: the sand sculptures exhibition - there is a daytime and evening display, the evening one being floodlit and,in my opinion,more spectacular.Unless things have changed, if you go during the daytime and get your ticket signed on the way out, you can return in the evening on the same ticket.

Anybody interested in this years Fiesa (Sand Sculpture Park) have a look at this site. This years theme is Wonders of the World and there are some excellent photos and information

Jennifer didn't seem very impressed with the 2007 sand sculptures, but we went a couple of weeks ago and thought they were amazing, as usual. Well worth a visit!

Please don't ever leave anything of value in your car - we had ours broken into in the sand sculptures car park.

What about Amarco De Perra it self as a town is is well worth going to especially if you have a few teens?

How far away is Albufeira too?

I'm interested in taking my two teens to see the sand sculputures when we are in Lagos in July. Quite like to see them myself.

Is it an easy drive? or will we get totally lost? Would we be looking at about a 45 min journey in the car all things being equal?

No, Amarco De Perra is not worth visiting unless its for a beach day. A lot of high rise multi-coloured buildings there which is a bit of an eye-sore. Would take about 15-20 mins by car from Albufeira.

Hi Doe,

Piece of cake to get to the sand sculptures, get on the N125 and head for Faro, when you get to Pera just look out for the signs. You turn left off the 125 and it's about 1-2 km on the right hand side (car park is on the left though).

Try and time your arrival for about an hour before sunset, have a walk around while it's light, then have beer while the sun goes down, and do it again when the sculptures are all lit up.

Thanks Perry, all being well an hour before sunset it will be then, followed by a drink and then a return visit when they are lit up.

Thanks for the link, the sand art looks great, im sure i can talk them all in to going. Might do the same as doepsmc, go and look around then have a drink and back again.

Well i found what seems a lovely villa in this area but after reading some comments about this area might start looking elsewhere now, is this place really that bad?

I guess it depends exactly where the villa is Mark. If it's outside ArmaÃƒÆ’Ã†â€™Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â§ao and you would have to drive into town anyway, then it makes little odds if you have to drive a bit further for a nicer view, if you get my drift. If it is right in town, and you don't like high rise modern "Costa" type resorts, then I would look elsewhere, but not Quarteira or Pria da Rocha, as they are very similar.

We popped into this resort on our recent holiday.

:shock:

Definitely not our cup of tea. The beach was small and crowded and the are looked 'run down'. We didn't hang about for long.

I second the above comments. Went for a drive last week and couldn't get out quick enough. Must be the ugliest built up town in the Algarve. There were apartment blocks & cranes as far as the eye could see.
