The family and I are off to Alcudia in August. We are going to a resort called Stil Aucanada Apartments and I am trying to find out what the apartments are like as well as the surrounding area and the town of Alcudia itself.
We are going self catering and I wanted to try and eat out every night, also we have a spending budget of about 130/140 euros per day. I have not been to Spain for years and do not know if this budget will be sufficient, so any advice on this would be great. The 130/140 would need to cover food and snacks in the day as well as an evening meal for 2 adults and 2 kids. I cannot help thinking I have not covered enough in the spending money department.
Any recommendations on restaurants would be good too
thanks
Steve
You might want to look here to give you some info in general - http://www.thealcudiaguide.com - and as to your budget, well it might be sufficient but you will probably need to add in taxi/bus costs if you find Alcanada is a bit limited. A taxi to the port would be about 5 euros.
If you go into the port daytime, here's a tip to eat quite well and not spend a lot. Try the local places back from the front line. There is one place - Bar Norai - back of a big restaurant called Bodega des Port. They do belting baguettes - great slabs of grilled chicken in a loaf for 2-3 euros. Another place on the main road as you come from Alcanada into the port is Sa Taverneta des Moll. Great tapas and inexpensive. Next to this is a place (Fujiyama) that claims to be Japanese but is really Chinese, but you can eat as much as you want for less than 9 euros.
The restaurants in Alcanada are both fairly expensive but very good. (There is also the restaurant at the golf club, but ...) There is another a bit away, called Casa Antonio, that is more economical and they do menus of the day.
Thanks for the information and the link, they will be really useful. One last thing, I am taking a bunch of travellers cheques with me, where would be the best place the cash them up, i assume the hotel will but will possibbly offer poor rates?
we went their about 3 years ago and loved them, but their is nothing for kids all their is there is a swimming pool, and the rooms didnt have air conditioning, their is a little rocky beach near which was nice, but we met a family who had been put here instead of the belview and didnt like it at all but their room was very small compaired to our 2 bedroom which was spacious, if you hire a car its easy to get into alcudia as the buses seemed to be busy this time of year and their is nothing to do unless you go into alcudia which is about a 20 min walk any questions just ask.
Bit concerned about the lack of air-conditioning, does the hotel hire anything like that do you know. or is it cool enough to sleep regardless?
I understand that the area has is fair share of Mosquito's, how did you overcome those?
Steve
it was red hot when we were their i couldnt sleep because it was so hot but i think you can hire fans, as far as i remember we didnt have much trouble with mosquitos as your not in alcudia but outside, but one thing we found in august the sea was warm like having a warm bath we used to spend most of our days their as its shallow.
Travellers' cheques - best to go to a bank, of which there are several in Puerto Alcudia.
Mosquitoes - no, shouldn't be too much trouble in Alcanada. But if you are concerned, get a plug-in for the room. They work well. If you go to certain parts of Alcúdia, most notably the Bellevue area, then they could be a problem, so some lotion might be an idea.
Thanks for all the advise/help. I think i will definately go for the fans to keep cool (well as cool as you can). What day is market day over there, as ive heard that the town is a nightmare on this day and is best avoided.
Walks. Yes there are walks. Not that I've ever tried one from Alcanada, but it may be possible to skirt by the side of the golf course up to the northside of Alcudia towards the area of Bonaire, but I don't know for sure.
If you check at the tourist office (there is one in the Paseo Maritimo) in the port, they produce a leaflet on local walks. Just one thing though. It's damn hot to be walking any distance, even in wooded areas.
Hi has any one stayed at the Stil Aucanada appartments before, is it any good for a family of 4, with 2 lads age 12, 15, and is it walking distance from the main town, any help please. thank you.
