Could anyone tell me which is the best tablet to take to sunny beach, as I went to Turkey in 2002 and landed up with Salmonella in which I was very ill, so I now go armed with anti sickness/dirreheoa tabs just in case....!!
Just wondered what is the best recommended one to take
Thanks
Fiona
I take Tescos own diarrhoea relief caps, they contain the same active ingredients as imodium but are a lot cheaper.
personally i find that immodion work best on hols. but thats just my opinion
The answer to the question is that they are all equally as effective, but there is a price difference. For example, from one source -
6 x Imodium-plus diarrhoea caplets £3.64
6 x Tesco diarrhoea relief capsules £1.71
Saving: £1.93
Haven't found a price for Arret, but I bet they are also more expensive than Tesco. It's similar to prefering Panadol to the generic drug paracetamol, for the same strength -
16 x Panadol tablets £1.99
16 x Tesco paracetamol tablets 16p
Saving: £1.83

If you go into a local chemist and ask for loperamide it should be a lot cheaper than the branded stuff,or as Patak says Tesco, or any other supermarket own brand, will be cheaper.

Diarrhoea Relief capsules, contain Loperamide Hydrochloride 2mg. I have been assured they work and are only 99p for 6 Tonyt
They have Imodium over here in the Aptekas (pharmacies) a box of 6 tablets is approx 5 Leva which is less than 2 pounds.
you could try cornflower,it won't cure it but it will thicken it up sorry
From my experience of Bulgaria take Immodion Plus!
By all means buy Imodium-plus if you wish to pay up to three times as much as the identical but differently labelled products sold by Drug Savers or Tesco.
Bulgaria is not generally a 'black spot' for diarrhoea or stomach upsets, except for those who overindulge in alcohol, food, or too much sun.
Public Health standards are as high or higher than many European summer destinations, a legacy of the communist era.

Activated dimeticone is sometimes called an anti-foaming agent or anti-flatulant. It is used to relieve pain and bloating caused by trapped wind that may be associated with the diarrhoea. It works by bringing together all the small bubbles of gas to form a large bubble, which is then easily expelled by belching.
As somebody who suffers from IBS I would just buy as Peter and others suggest one of the cheaper brands containing 2 mg of Loperamide Hydrochloride, you are just paying for the Imodium name.
