Hi...I heard somewhere that there is a festival or carnival on the 1st & 2nd of September, has anybody got any more details

Fishersmans festival in Albufeira is what you are thinking of.
It's all happening on Fishermen's Beach and the newly paved area there. On 1st September there are "traditional games" at 7.00 p.m., followed by a Festival of Folklore at 9.00 p.m., with four groups of performers. On the 2nd, there are the games again at 7.00 p.m. and a concert by Monica Sintra at 9.00 p.m. Should be good!
