I was just speaking to some mates earlier and couldn't believe how much some people take away with them so though it would make an interesting topic. So, for a 7 day holiday what do you usually pack in terms of t-shirts, shorts, jeans etc etc, I'm talking about a trip to the likes of Malia for a bit of a lads holiday going out every night.
Danny.
Always far too much..but i always want to make sure we have enough clean clothes!
Well my hubby and teenage sons would try to take a clean t shirt for each day of the holiday so 14 days , 14 t shirts but I usually thin this down to about 10. hubby usually takes more but I buy him loads of cheapie plain ones. A pair of jeans each, A pair of combat type , 2 pairs of going out evening shorts . at least 2 pairs each swim style shorts, about 7/8 pairs each socks and pants. ( sorry but as they only wear these in the evening they have to make do for 2 nights running ). and 1 sweatshirt each which they carry with them on the journey
I'm going away for 3 weeks next month to the Dominican Republic and dont know where to start.......I think I may need 3 cases, the only problem is I travel alone so cant even sneak some clothes into a partners suitcase.
sam
my son went to Magaluf last year and took 3 pairs of swim shorts, 5 vests (day), 1 jeans, 1 full length linen trousers, 1 cut off jeans, 2 three-quarter trousers. 2 polo shirts, 3 short sleeve shirts, 1 pair trainers, 1 pair shoes, 1 flipflops, hat, sunglasses, underwear. He had a ball!
as little as pos am taking underwear bikinies 2 pairs of dress pants a few piars of 3-4 3 pairs of socks to go under my boots and about 7 tops and thats including my daytime tops hairdryer and straightners
Where we are going in December (14 days), they have a very good and cheap laundry service, so I don't need to pack 14 t-shirts or 14-pairs of pants. I have some pretty t-shirt/tops that have things attached to them, so I don't let the hotel launder them.
That is without mine and hubbys clothes too!
I always say "Not next time.." but when it comes to it still put them in!
And on my return - worn or not worn - I wash the whole case contents!!
Far too much every time - but I don't learn
fellas (well, the one god dished out to me, anyway) are terrible for re-cycling clothes on holiday. he will not accept that wearing a pair of socks for 5 hours at night in 35 degrees of heat equates to the same level of pong that you would expect wearing them at work for 8 hours in an air conditioned room-if not more!!! next day scenario ''where are my socks from last night, they are clean on'' i have spent 7 years quizing him on why he wants to wear socks and footwear during the day anyway, he has finally discovered 'man sandals' as he so elequently puts it. no doubt this year's whinge of the fortnight will now be ''i've got sand in my toes now, these shoes were your idea, you know!'' he can go to butlins in a single chalet next year...
I think it depends a lot on what sort of holiday you are taking, I travel long haul a lot, touring, maybe 2 - 3days at each place. Most hotels have reasonably cheap laundries so I take advantage of them. I learned years ago to travel light as I soon got fed up of lugging heavy cases around and having to search through a lot of clothes in the case for what I needed, when only staying one night. I've got so used to travelling light that even if I go to Spain for a week I now take the minimum of clothes and have long since given up wanting to wear something different everynight. I have been known to go away with just hand luggage.
For hubby I pack 3 swimshorts and a vest for each day. For the night 4 pairs of mixed three quarters and linen trousers, and a shirt for each night. A pair of underpants for each night, no socks ( they're banned on hols)Footwear - 1 pair of flip flops & a pair of sandals - he wears trainers on the plane. A hat and sunglasses are a must.
Every year I pack far too much clothes and always say I'm not doing that next year but I do. Starting to think about packing for our holiday in October and I know I will pack way too much, I can't help it. At least I've got new cases for this year and they all have wheels on them so that will save my poor hubby alot of hard work. I really admire these people who pack just what they need, I wish I could.
I go away in a few weeks time and I am already buying more clothes and sandels.
What can a women do when you see things in the Sales!!!!!!!
4 t shirts, 3 pairs shorts, 3 pairs swimmers and beach shoes for daytime
2 pairs jeans, 2 pairs linens, 10 shirts/tops, 10 pants, 10 socks and 2 pairs trainers for night.
add to that 2 towels, toiletries, sun cream, books etc and that's pretty much 20kgs
I always try to minimise what I need. For a 2 week holiday I try for as much wash and wear as poss. Linen is great for this as the crumpled look is OK. Maybe 7-10 pairs pants, assorted socks, 1 pair per trousers so I usually take 4-6 pairs, 2 pair light trousers, 3 pair swimshorts and 6-8 shirts, polo and otherwise. I try to mix and match as much as possible, and a shirt worn for a couple of hours one week will last for another evening and as poolside top as well. Unfortunately, my BH loves to dress up and so much taken "Just in Case" ends up "In the Case!" Bless her, I love her anyway.
Now why is it my case is always marked Heavy Load. It doesn't seem much written down, does it.......well, does it!!!
I used to take the 14 knickers too and only ever wore the skin coloured ones. I now take 7 pairs of those and when I'm down to 2 pairs swill them out - magic!
I think the majority of us pack the world and his wife in the suitcase and dont wear half of them, but its just a matter, of in case i need this, in case i need that.I now only pack what i need( well I think so) but it still comes to approx 18kgs, trouble is all the toiletries we need which we can no longer put in hand luggage make the weight up in our suitcase.Happy holidays everyone. Cheers Jayjan
Just packed my case for tomorrow they weigh 17 kilo each!, just in jet2's 20 limit, so hope the airport scales agree with mine!!!
