I would absolutely recommend one of the 'Couples' resorts. They are 'high end' like Sandals, but IMO, far more friendly, better quality, more included and far less expensive. Beaches would be best at Negril rather than Ochos Rios, but the beaches there are still the typical Carribean beaches.

Have a look on their website, http://www.couples.com

It is very comprehensive, they even have menus on there. 24 hour everything is available, and the staff cannot do enough to help you. Their gourmet restaurants are the best in Jamaica.

You can book through Thomson, we are getting married at Couples Negril in March 08, and booked with Thomson Tailor made.

Sorry, just to add, there is a forum/message board on the Couples website which is brilliant if you think of anything you want to know about your holiday that might not be in the brochures. Also, if you book with Thomson, you can get different room categories if you ask, but they don't list them in the brochures. We are booked in a suite, which has an amazing bathroom, including a jacuzzi bath, seperate shower, double sinks, a vanity area and a seating area. The suites also have an amazingly stocked mini-bar (beer, red wine, white wine, champagne, tomato juice, orange juice, pineapple, juice, prune juice, sprite, diet coke plus bottles of vodka, gin, whisky and rum)

Couples in Ochos Rios has a completely private beach, so th eonly people on it are the hotel staff and guests. it is fairly smallish, but large enough for sunbathing.

Couples Negril isn't actually on Negril Beach, it's on Bloody bay beach, shared with 3 other hotels. it is a public beach, but you don't get so many people as Negril beach, and I have certainly never heard of drug pushers or anything like it. As for theft in rooms, I always wonder why people don't put valuebles in the provided safety deposit box. We always do, as when you are visiting a poor country, best not to be provocative with your goods. In fact, people have things stolen even in english hotels, probably less, but people aren't so complacent when at home, I mean, you wouldn't leave a £200 digital camera in full view while you went out, would you? Or maybe I'm just odd!
