Thanks everyone for your help in my earlier thread about where to stay, what to do etc. I've come up with this possible itinerary. Those of you who have been there, would you say this is possible in the timescales:
Arrive Fri land at 16:15. Estimate out of aiport and in hotel by 18:30. Out of hotel at 20:00 after shower etc, walk up to Times Square (im staying 10 blocks away) and have dinner somewhere there (any recommendations where you dont need a booking?)
Saturday, up early, helictoper flight at 9.30 (already booked). Then on to WTC site and walk down Wall Street. Bus/Taxi/Subway over to other side of Brooklyn bridge and walk back into Manhattan. Then up to Empire State building (will pre-book tickets). Walk past NY public library and then across to Grand Central Station. In the evening, up to Rockafella centre, ice skating perhaps, food and up to Top of the Rock.
Sunday - Up to Central Park, walk around, maybe see Carnige Hall. Then on to Saks 5th Ave for shopping, Tiffany's etc. before back down to Macey's which is by the hotel. *(What time do shops close on a Sunday?). Pack in the evening for a bit before finding somewhere to eat (suggestions please).
Monday - fly out back to London at 07.35.
Do you think this is possible given the distances and times involved? Thanks.
If shoppings your thing, maybe better of doing that Saturday afternoon/ evening when there's more of a buzz about the place and guaranteed opening hours.
Why not get a late flight back on the Monday [ie. leaving JFK around 7:30pm, it gives you an extra day to fit in anything you miss] which would get you back to UK Tuesday morning around 9am.
Enjoy either way.
have to work the next day unfortunately else i would have got the later flights
If you want somewhere near Times Square to eat, there are loads of diners etc up Broadway and I've seen that Ruby Foos is often recommended (not been though so couldn't comment on the food etc.) http://www.brguestrestaurants.com/restaurants/ruby_foos_times_square/index.php
On the Sunday before you hit Central Park I would recommend going to Landmarc in the Time Warner centre at Columbus Circle for brunch as it's right opposite the park. The food and service is really good. We went for lunch and then ended up going back for brunch as we enjoyed it so much - http://www.landmarc-restaurant.com/twc/
As for Sunday evening, you don't say where you are staying but we had a great night in Garage in Greenwich Village - http://www.garagerest.com/ - it's really easy to find (we just caught a cab down from 49th St) and the food was lovely. It often gets busy so I'd suggest booking but we just did that on the day.
Thanks - you are a font of all knowledge!! I am staying in the New Yorker by Empire State building.

Ah yes, that's right I remember from your other post now! Well, you're on 8th Ave so Garage is just a block over on 7th if you fancy it.
Im doing a Friday to Monday trip to NYC next month Gary, so I am going to steal parts of your intinery!
Ok, let me know how you get on and if you can add any more to it.
Firestars - have you been yet?
garyholc- shopping hours at Macy's 10.00 to 9.30pm Mon- Sat and on Sunday 11.00 to 8.30pm
we went to NYC in 2003 & 2004. Both times flying out 0930 Friday and getting the 2400 flight back on Sunday evening. Your timetable is very do-able. You will be exhausted but it is worth it.
When we went the first time we did:
arrived 1600 Friday - explored the area then Times Square(stayed in Hotel just of TQ) for drinks and meals
Saturday - Helicopter ride, Boat ride, bus tour, shopping ,Macys, Bloomingdales,Empire State Building,(Valentines evening-lots of proposals/not me!!), theatre show.
Sunday - Church, Disney Store(then more shopping), Central park carriage ride, meal.
As part of the weekend did walk a lot, the metro is easy and convenient, taxis are reasonable.
Luckily we did all the usual touristy things the first time, as when we went the next April it was raining. The boats to the islands were not sailing, helicopters grounded, and you could not see above then 15th floor of the Empire State Building so going to the top would have been a complete waste.
Amongst all the waffle what I am saying is go for it, do as much as you can.
Bill
Yeah not intending to sleep the 3 days I am there lol, in the city that never sleeps, I am not going to sleep!!! plenty of time for sleep on the plane on the way back!
Slight (3hr delay) on Zoom, got into JFK on Friday evening approx 7pm - Security was quicker than I imagined it would be and I was out and in a cab in no time, arriving @ my hotel in Times Square by 9pm.
Quick walk down broadway to see the ESB and I was ready for bed.
Sat - Walked down from 45th street to Ground Zero, via the Flatiron building, ESB again, Wall Street. - Carried on South Sea Seaport and the Brooklyn bridge.
Popped into Macys and Century 21 on the way back.
Sun - ESB - get there early - we only had a 10 min wait at 08:15. - Onto to subway (very easy - Times square runs directly to Battery Park) - Onto Ellis Island, walk up again to South Sea, taxi up to Bloomingdales.
Not sure if every Sunday is market day - but Broadway was closed whilst a market was on. You couldnt wish for that much choice of food to eat. - Walked up to Central Park.
Mon - quick jaunt over to Grand Central Station and the Rockafella center before hailing a cab back to JFK.
So -2 full days is more than enough time to do it all, at a relaxed pace, whilst leaving enough time for a leisurely lunch and plenty of shopping.
