Hi

I have stayed in Alcudia 3 times now and know about the problem with the mozzies - I always use the Boots own extra strength repellant - think it comes in a silver can. It is fabulous - out of the 4 adults going I was the only one that didn't get bitten. However, it is not suitable for children as it contains deet but I just use the jungle formula family wipes for them, and they have never been bitten once.

Just booked the Delfin Azul in Alcudia next May for a great price this morning, so will be stocking up.

We had no problems at all with Mozzis in Can Picafort didn't even see one thankfully

Daughter liked covering herself in all the repellants though so all was not wasted.

Hubbie who normally gets eaten alive used nothing after the 1st night and hasn't got one bite at all!

I live right opposite the Albufera park, which is notorious for mosquitoes, and have hardly seen a mosquito since around the third week of June. Very strange, but very welcome, though it was a bit like this last year and they made a comeback in autumn.

we have just come back from Alcudia and we didn't see any mozzies at all.

We stayed at the Delfin Verde in Alcudia about 18 years ago,It was the end of September and it was swarming with mozzies,On a night when you were trying to sleep all you could hear was the damn things buzzing around actually inside our apartment :bhead ,The next morning the balcony was covered in dead mozzies, there wasn't a space that didn't have a dead mozzy on it :yikes .

I got one or two bites from the little monsters but my Nan was absolutely covered and was quite ill with them, she bought all the usual repellant sprays but found that Vinegar or lemon juice seemed to keep them at bay and take the swellings down.

Although Alcudia is a beautiful resort I really wouldn't want to go again to get eaten alive!!!!!

Just returned from Viva Bahia with the bites to prove the mozzies are about! They were not in vast numbers by any means but were out for the kill!

Just back from the Prinsotel la Dorada. First few days were mozzie free, but the last week they were very much in evidence.

My children didn't get a single bite, and my wife only a few, but as soon as I came out of the room it was like banging the dinner gong. Most bites I've had for a long, long time. Lots of the other guests complaining about them too.

Just been reading all the above posts about the mozzies. I am going in May next year with my parents and my 8 year old. I am now dreading it as I have really bad reactions to even midge bites in this country. My mam still has photo's of me last time I was in Aludia with them when I was about 14, sitting on the sofa in the apartment covered in calamine lotion and bandages to stop me itching and swelling any more.

I just hope they aren't too bad next year. Can anyone tell me if they are always as bad as this at the end of May/beginning of June?

Hi Sazmo,My sister always get a bad reaction from mosquito bites so she takes anti-histamine tablets for a week before she goes away and all the time she is there. They dont stop you getting bit but stop them becoming infected apparently. While we were in Alcudia someone told us that you should use the tropical mosquito repellant(the kind you would use if you were going Africa or somewhere like that).Maybe that would work better than the ordinary kind we used.

Thanks for the tip HelenRad, I will try the tropical repellent I think.

I always get a prescription from the Doctor in about April to cover me for the whole summer, for anti-histamines as I suffer from hayfever and they help the hayfever, but don't seem to help the bites much, so maybe will ask him for a different type before going or if they can recommend something a bit stronger for while we are away.
