Depends when you want to go we went in may 2 year ago and never had any probbs it might be differant in july/august when it is hotter
last year i got bit to bits, didn't let it put me off and went back this year. i went prepared. 10 mozzie burners (little coil things that smell of wood) 3 euro from chemist near bellvue. excellent for taking to entertainment on a night. also bought some aerosol spray thing (6euro from spar opposite club mac) that lasted for 8 hours so used to put that on every night before getting dressed. then a mozzie plug in the room.
how many bites this year? 3, 2 on my face and one on my back where i missed with the spray.
will i let it put me off alcudia next year? no, already booked for june again back to club mac
The rep on our Corfu holiday warned us not to wear perfume in the evening as it attracts the mozzies. They won't stop me from going back to Corfu or anywhere else, but next time I will spray myself with repellant in the evening and cover up my legs, which got the worst bites, especially if eating dinner outside. And if all else fails, a plastic water bottle partly filled and frozen as an ice pack is very soothing when held against the bite.
We came back last sunday from Alcudia and only saw 1 mossie all week and they love my wife, all down to luck werever you go.I hope you enjoy Alucdia as much as we did
My mam and dad have just returned from Alucdia. Like me, my mam is normally a full meal, but she only had one or two bites this time and they hardly saw any mozzies.
Thanks for all the feedback think we will chance going and stock up on repellent.
The shops there have a wide selection of sprays and plug ins.
I also use Vitamin B Complex a month before I go.
It gives your body a scent the Mozzies don't like, but we cannot smell it.
We stay in Cala Millor/Cala Bona and only had 1 mozzie bite but had 2 horsefly bites which were really bad
It does to a certain extent depend on the time of year, but also the humidity levels, and there always seems to be more mozzies about after we've had rain, which happened this year more in August and October than it has done in November!
There are repellents and treatments that you can take, but my experience is that they seem to be cheaper in UK, especially at this time of year, so maybe now is a good time to stock up.
This isn't a dig at Alcudia, but I'm reliably told that Alcudia is partly built on reclaimed Marshland, and that there are still areas of wetland, and of course this is perfect breeding situation for the mosquito, so there is an element of truth at least that Alcudia (and any other resort with similar problems) may have a higher mozzie population.
My solution to mozzies is - don't scratch - mind over matter!
Cheers
Adam
Get somewhere that has air c on in the rooms and there is no need to leave the doors open at night when the mossies are more active.
Hi we stayed at the club mac in alcudia for a week this september. The club mac is built around a lake and loads of reviews before we went said that there would be loads of mozzies however we hardly saw any i think my hubby may have got bitten twice maximum! I avoided it completly but we did take some spray with us! I personally found the flys much more irritating !
Living next to the Albufera wetlands, my experience for the last two years has been that the mosquito problem has been quite bad in the spring. From end June or so, it hasn't been. Flies in September and autumn though. Yep. Still a problem.
