just back from two weeks in Icmeler.
Orignally we had booked via Icmeler on line for 2 weeks in Turunc, looking for a quiet resort. sadly the hotel we had booked closed and Icmeler on line offered a refund or a change of hotel.
As we had booked flights to dalaman we decided to pick a hotel in Icmeler as an alternative and after seeing good reports picked the Blue Rainbow hotel.
Icmeler on line rebooked this for us and gave us a discount on tranfers for the inconvenience ( which was nice as it was beyond their control)
We flew with Onur air from manchester and was pleasanly surprised by the flight which was on time with a great check in.
(no thanks to Manchester Airport with their ridiculous security arrangements for cars dropping off).
Flight was smooth with a nice clean aircraft and a pleasant cabin crew.
The meal was basic but sufficient, soft drinks were free and alcohol was cheaper than usual with free mixers for shorts.
(Cigs and spirits were cheaper on board than in dalaman duty free)
Landing in Dalaman was the best touchdown ever with no bump at all.
Customs, immigration and visa etc were fairly quick and baggage was claimed just as quick, then outside for transfer.
Saw the Icmeler on line sign straight away, waited 10 mins for other passengers and were on our way in a nice mini bus with A/c.
Only two drops in Icmeler so were almost straight into hotel, sorted in a minute or two with reception saying "if you don't like your room change it tomorrow! "
The room was clean but a bit small and the shower room ditto and also a bit dark, but not a real problem, beds were comfy enough and extra pillows were brought on request straight away.
No fridge but a well stocked mini bar at reasonable prices, and a TV with mainly Turkish channells plus BBC world wide and CNN.
Showered, changed out for a meal.
Ok , so now you are asking "why is this report titled Bad Holiday choice"?
This is why
Came back from meal ready for a good sleep............... Not A Chance!!!
The hotel is surrouned by bars/ restaurants that play very loud music from 10.00 onwards. Fun pubs, Karaoke Party nights etc.
At 12.00 the music IS turned down but the background noise from customers laughing singing etc continues.
After 2 nights we asked for a different room hoping that it may be quieter.
no problem changing room but no improvment either.
So we went to the Icmeler on line office to ask for possible change of hotel to a quiter one, saying we would accept self catering if that was all available and would stand the costs etc of moving.
Checked following day to be told that the only alternative was the Navy Hotel but as this was in the same area we didn't think that it would be any better so bought cotton wool and made earplugs!
Put up with the noise and lack of sleep and continued holiday.
Called at icmeler line office on unrelated enquiry and during conversation found that the girl we had spoken to had told that we only wanted hotel and not S/C . If we had been prepared to accept S/C then we could have changed.
The girl had by then left the company.
We still had a week to go so asked for a change again, if possible to self catering in the Old town.
A promise to check and either phone us or leave a message with result of check.
Never heard anything further.
Continued with earplugs.
Check out of the hotel, transfer to airport and flight home were all fine.
In conclusion.
No problems with Onur Air
No problems with the hotel (except for location)
No problems with Icmeler ( but wouldn't be my choice again)
No problems with transfers.
And to be honest not a genuine problem with Icmeler on line, however I was a bit dissapointed that after knowing we had originally booked for a quiet resort, that they didn't mention the noise around this hotel which having good local knowledge they were aware of.
Should I go to Icmeler again(very doubtfull) then I would use Icmeler on line but would do more research on hotel location.
Anyway.
Older and wiser and back to Bitez next year.
The old village would have been much nicer if you could have got in there.
Will it be back to Bitez next year
We're gadding off to Spain tonight, so will talk to you when we get back.
LOL Marn and Mike.
We stayed there for a few years and really enjoyed it but decided to have a change, we found the perfect place in Dalyan, beautiful area, loverly people as usual, scenery to die for and a loverly village with enough going on to keep you happy. The beach is gorgeous only a 15 min bus ride all very well organized, a strole down the river path at night after tea is very relaxing with beautiful views of the tombs, pehapes this may suit you better.
sorry to hear you didnt enjoy the hotel in icmeler, you have got me worried now as we are going to icmeler in 3 weeks and like you i hate noise at night, last time we stayed there we were at the back of resort so it was quiet this time we are staying in a different apt so hope its not noisey or i will move in with my mother for the week lol. its the kleopatra apts anyone know if they are in quiet or noisey location
The only reason we aren't going there next year is that it is far easier to travel around from bitez.
ellie-meg, don't know where your aptms are, but if in the back of town or old town I doubt that you will have any problem.
By the way the airport is pretty good now.
Sorry to hear you had a bad holiday.
Sorry about your holiday del - we went to Turunc for first time last year and thought it was lovely - just our cup of tea. Went into Icmeler for a day and couldn't wait to get back to Turunc, but each to their own. Good luck with your next hol.
Hi del949, I sympathise with your dilemma and like the other people above am sorry it didn't work out for you. SHOULD, you change your mind and decide to return to Icmeler next year through Icmeleronline then I can thoroughly recommend Club Petunya Apartments. We too, go on holiday for peace and quiet and we certainly got it here. Give them the once over, they do have their own website. Whatever you decide for next year, good luck and hope it works out well for you.
I feel that I must though just make a point clear for people who have never visited Icmeler before and were thinking of it but maybe are now unsure and will think that the town is all boom boom bars.
Derick specifically requested the first floor of this hotel so would of course hear noises all night from people walking by the hotel after their evening out and you will from this floor if you are a light sleeper like myself hear the buses running all night bringing in holiday makers.
The resort is not a boom boom place though there are one or two bars near to this hotel that are very loud because they try to compete with each other for business and for some reason think that the louder the music then the more chance they have getting people away from the other bars.
ALL MUSIC in bars in Icmeler is turned off at midnight and then people are allowed to sit in the bars and drink until 2 am and then they have to leave.
There is no way that people who have saved hard all year will not go in these bars and enjoy themselves and of course until the wee hours and so of course you will hear the noise from people enjoying themselves.
Once again I am sorry Derick did not enjoy Icmeler but we could not put him in the village which we would have liked to where it is quieter and would have been more enjoyable as he would not have been able to do the walk down to the town and the beach.
I hope that this does not put people off Icmeler and of course its different strokes for different folks and I myself love the quietness of Turunc and Akyaka but only for a day trip and there is no way that I could actually stay in these places for a length of time as beautiful as they are as they are too quite for me but maybe one day In the future this will be my type of holiday.
John
Edited to also add: In case people think that this music is there all the time it actually starts 10pm after meals in restaurants so really the music is on for only 2 hours.
Is Bitez really all that? I adored the beach and we travelled there a couple of times during last week to enjoy the peace and quiet at the beautiful shores, however, the town itself looked very very quiet and I really wasnt sure that I could stick a week there - and I really am not into mad pubs and clubs till all hours either - It just looked a little ....boring maybe?
The one or two noisy bars were in fact six within 100yds of the hotel.
There are however several other hotels available with Icmeler on line that are probably in quieter areas.
There were certainly areas where the bars were not as loud.
As John fairly says "different strokes for different folks", and if we all liked the same thing then there wouldn't be any room at the place we all liked.
In conclusion I did say to Tracy in the Icmeler on line office that if they ever offer Bitez I would have no problems booking again with them as they do offer good value for money and the holiday was excellent apart from the noisy hotel.
I just wish we could have given you the S apartments in Turunc as you would have really enjoyed it but there is one hell of a climb up those steps from the harbour
Terrific view from the patio area
Yes Icmeler really has something for everyone, banging bars if you want them and quiet bars if you dont. Would you consider one of the hotels along the beach front, we stayed at the munamar last month and it was lovely and quiet after midnight. Slept better there than I do at home. I know it must have been awful not to get a good nights sleep though when we want to go to bed we like to know that we are going to go straight to sleep. I really would give Icmeler another go though, and I do agree Turunc is lovely too. We were going over to visit when we were in Icmeler last month but it was so hot we just didnt have the energy.
we stayed at the Blue Rainbow a few years ago and thought it was awful, the noise coming from the bars were awful and the food was even worse, but unfortunatley i could not write a review on the Icmeler on line as it is one of theirs and it would not be good for their reputation. I went through another holiday firm and reported it to them. We have been 7 times since and found lovely apartments behind the vilamar which suits or as it is not loud there
As said before different strokes for different folks so not a problem.
I stay there myself and find the place and very good and I have never had a problem with the food there so go ahead and post the review please.
John
I have stayed at Blue Rainbow several times and at the hotel next door Elif and have always enjoyed and is my first choice of hotel only stayed elsewhere in Sept as we had daughter with us and she didint want to be in a room alone so we chose an apartment. I chose it because of its location we like to be in the centre and when we get in the bars are quiet as its after 12 but this year our friends booked with a company I havent heard of and they were in the old village and it was far too quiet and far away from the centre for them so as has been said its a case of checking where hotel is and whats around it. I have only had breakfast in Rainbow and have always found it fresh and plentiful.
I posted a review about the Blue Rainbow a couple of years ago after I went andd it was deleted, but as you say everyone has different opinions of hotels and just did not like the loud music and food but from what i gather it has changed now and alot better
DublinAngel.......
I reckon too many nice posts does not give a true review and I would like also to see the negative so people can be aware so they can tell staff what is wrong.
