You need to read the small print of your booking form. They may have a clause saying that they can cancel if they are expecting inclement weather.

Hi rwb ... as Kath suggests, I think you might find that P&O's Terms & Conditions stipulate that schedules may be disrupted or cancelled as a result of adverse weather and that in such cases, they accept no liability for any inconvenience or additional costs. Having provided you with an alternative sailing on the same date, albeit from another port some distance away, I am not sure that they would have any further obligations to you.

Presumably the alternative service from Cairnryan was operated by a larger vessel which was not affected by adverse weather in the same way. Unfortunately, disruption to the fast ferry services to/from Troon is not unusual when the sea is rough.

Thanks for the quick replies Mods, I still cant see how they will get away with this, Particularly the 70 mile journey to the Port where I had to sail from, Now you would expect the ferry that left from Cairnryan to be pretty well full, Well it wasent even a tenth to capacity this suggests to me that they deliberately pulled the 8.20 from Troon as they knew that there was insufficient passengers on it, In communication with them they told me that 120 passengers had actually caught the 8 pm sailing from Cairnryan, I dispute this as when I arrived at Troon I was there at 7pm 1 hour 20 minutes before it was due to sail, That's 35 minutes before you have to check in, Now most people checking into the port will leave it much later than I do as I know this as I do travel a lot, It takes around 1 hour 20 minutes to go from Troon to Cairnryan traffic permitting, Now if they were aware of this earlier then why did no one phone me on my Mobile regarding the cancelation, Yet they phone my house number in Morthern Ireland and tell my other half that the ferry has been cancelled at 4pm they informed her that they would phone me or text me to tell me this, Had they done this I could have made the journey to Cairnryan and caught the earlier ferry as opposed to catching the midnight one and haveing to wait for it 4 hours, Now if P&O had made some sort of effort to assist the passengers at Cairnryan ie, put staff on in the cafe so people could purchase hot food as opposed to buying sandwiches and drinks from vending machines at grossly inflated prices I may say, Again this suggests to me that they deliberately did not want this ferry to leave the port of Larne as it certainly wasent berthed at Troon, Yes had it been adverse conditions I would have seen that at the Port also, And yes I do know things can be very different at sea, I have had problems in the past with cancelations with the other company who sail from Belfast also again this was due to insuficent passengers to travel but at least they gave there customers Vouchers for meals and drinks onboard when the ferry did sail.
