Hi folks
Its been ages since I was on the forum as am currently six months into a 7 month camping tour of Europe and have been having a ball.
However in 2008 we are going to spend the year backpacking round India but plan to start in Candolim to break us in gently and to start with what we know and love.
Only ever done the 2 week package to Candolim before and stayed at Highland Beach, Don Hill, Ave Maria and Alor Grande in the past.
We will be flying into Goa from Bombay in January 2008( exact date unknown as we speak) and plan to spend 4 -6 weeks in Candolim. We want to rent an apartment or a room in a guesthouse but not really sure how to go about it. Please can I have your suggestions.
We have heard that Pretty Petals is Ok but have no contact details for them so if anyone can oblidge I'd be grateful. Also can you tell me what we should expect to pay per week.
Next question is do we book something in advance or take a chance and turn up and try and find something when we arrive? Your thoughts please.
We are not fussy just want somewhere basic but clean and preferably fairly close to the main part of Candolim.
Will be back in the Uk in about 2 weeks and therefore will have regular access to internet and email then so hope to have a few replies when I can next log on.
Can't wait to catch up with 7 months worth of postings!!!!
Hope you are all well and look forward to seeing some of you at Lazydays in Jan.
Sian
Pretty Petals are PRETTY EXPENSIVE, if you want to save your money, there are loads of villas, around Pretty Petals that let out rooms and apartmants, you will not have any trouble finding somewhere to stay in January, any tuk tuk driver or taxi driver, will tell you where the cheapest places and best ones are.

I stopped at the Tropicano years ago. Small, simple, clean and friendly. I don't think the Ave Maria has had great reviews, the Coqueiral is a lovely building, formerly a private house - they have a website, but prices are not dirt cheap

I emailed the UK contact for Pretty Petals last year, from the following link, and I think they said they're are not associated with the guesthouse anymore, but there is a Goa contact on the site

Maybe book a couple of nights for when you arrive, which is what I did last year, and then you can always move rooms, or guesthouses, if you're not wild about where you've booked.
I have stayed at Shanu last year for a while (no contact number on the cafegoa link), and the rooms were clean with private balconies, and right by the beach. No complaints and worth a shot if you get the number (have seen a couple of different ones on the net). Our first room was small and pleasant, but we moved to a much larger one with a sea view, and this was really nice.
We stayed at Pretty Pettals in March this year and could not fault it, we paid 1300 rupees per night but that was for the penthouse. Needless to say we are going back next March, same room same price. It is very clean and the staff are wonderful.
