Cant recommend a cottage but your choice of location for xmas is spot on. Try the Yorkshire Dales website for accomodation recs. and have a lovely time.
I would say Devon or Cornwall for Christmas. Its milder than most other locations too around the Christmas time. North Devon is especially great, you could have a rural reteat with a log fire, Nice and Cosy
