Dump, nowhere near.
If you want a dump get yourself over to Benalmadena, the marina and surrounding area is lovely.
but i stayed in a residental area, and it was awful, cars with no wheels up on bricks, big bins not emptied regularly, and the dog mess, well what can i say. it was an assault course trying to get to the beach.
I've never experienced any of this in tenerife.
But i stick to my guns and i think that i always will. Drink prices reflect on the number of tourists in the resorts.
i speak to friends regularly who like tenerife, but won't go a lot cause of the price of drinks.

just take it on round figures, if you go one year and spend £1000.00, then back again the same or next year to the same hotel and more or less do the same thing and spend £1300.00 you soon notice the difference alright.
Even the prices out get the people in.
The evening prices are the normal prices the day or early evening prices are promotional prices to try & attract people to drink when the bar would normally be empty

whilst talking to business and shop owners they all told me how worried they were about the trade, it was so quiet in the bars and shops, i understand the seaason only started the other day but wow, walking down cardiac hill near the market and looking over into "hollywood mirage is it"? the orange and yellow big complex there was not a single person by the pool!. Read the post again. Where in that post did I say you did'nt say that :shrug. You need to read a bit slower mate, and take the words in .
i dont think the price of flights have any bearing on anything,we have just booked our flights for next july and have paid £150 each, scheduled with ba! we have booked a lovely apartment in los cristianos for £330 per week,we are going for 3 weeks..total holiday price £480 each person for 3 weeks in a 5 star apartment! we love tenerife so much we are selling up in 5years to live out there,in the meantime we just have to make do with 2 holidays a year out there. we dont find it too expensive to eat out at all i think you can spend as little or as much as you wish. i do think it will come full circle again with tenerife, there are so many new places ie bulgaria, croatia etc that people will go back eventually! lastly some of the silly spanish laws havent really helped tourism,eg the ban on bingo in bars.. have to have a license now which is probably very pricey!!
I have to say that I welcome the change in going a bit more 'up market' and I don't mind paying a bit more for a drink or a meal in a nice bar or restraunt, lets face it, you don't go to the 'dives' at home do you ?
But, I have to admit to seeking out the 1euro a pint bars meeself !
Anyway, we enjoyed it so much, as soon as we got home I booked flights for easter 08 !
Information must be available as to the official numbers of visitors to Tenerife. Are the numbers up or down?

your saying the price doesn't matter but i don't think thats true, OK you have a cheap holiday going on, but if price off flights didn't matter you wouldn't mention them, so price of flights most certainly does matter.
But surely as a winter sun destination thats different since its only 4 hrs from the uk and where else can you get sunshine without sitting on the plane a whole lot longer?
