Hi,
I am at this time trying to get back almost £2800 which I spent on this years family holiday.
as a family with small children we book very carefully a resort/hotel that has plenty to do for our kids (8 and 4)
Firstchoice had Regency Beach Hotel Corfu advertised in their brochure and it sounded great, and was in a fantastic resort with plenty of facilities and amenities.
Unfortunately the resort that the hotel was actually located in was not even close or in the same place as the one in the brochure.
To get to the nearest town we had to pay around £10 each way in a taxi.
I am now looking to enlist the help of Ros Fernihough but I am unable to get her on the number 01922 621114 does anyone have a more recent number of information on how I can contact Ros?
An alternative number is 01922 633214 which will take you via their switchboard or you can email at travel@edmunds-co.com
Hope this helps
The First Choice website (not the brochure but I assume they are one and the same) says that the hotel is in Aghios Ioannis and is 3.5km from Benitses. Is that not how it really was?
Can you elaborate a bit?
Thanks,
Louby
In the brochures (I say brochures as I have, since returning from my holiday been into the hyper store and collected another 2) and they all state that the resort has many shop, bars and tavernas with a lovely sandy beach. and the map of the island shows the resort to be on the west side of the island, getting the sunsets.
The hotel is actually in a village (I use the term loosely as it was a village because the hotel was there and nothing else) called Agios Ioannis on the east side of the island below Benitses. The same name as the popular resort but without any of the featured listed in the brochure.
To get to the nearest town Benitses was either a nightmare of a bus journey, where you had to walk almost 1km to the bus stop on a busy main road (not fun with my two children), that ran directly out side the main entrance to the hotel and wait until the driver decided he was ready to come.
or...
catch a taxi at a rate of between £7 and £10 each way dependant on the driver and how hot he was when he dropped you off.
The hotel itself was rather nice, but most definately was not 4star as stated in the brochure.
the food was the best thing in the hotel but on 4 different occasions we had food that was either mouldy or raw in the middle.
also the food not used at lunch, was re-used in new and inovative ways for the evening meal (mmmm TASTY and potentially dangerous)
The entertainment was non existent, and at the time of leaving there were around 3 entertainers for over 600 guests and any entertainment available was mainly designed for the french guests.
the childrens pool was at the top of the mountain side that the hotel was built on, so you had to go to the top of the hotel then walk around 200m up a hill past the adult pools to get the the childrens area (and the pools in the childrens area were not cleaned, so you would turn up on a monday and see tissue and icecream cones from the sunday floating in or around the pool).
there was no beach, but there was a lovely sharp shingle area by the sea where you could go for a dip in the warm sea or for a massive cut on your feet.
the brochure also stated the the rooms had aircon and satelite tv, the aircon only worked if you were in the room but took so long to cool down that it was useless, the aircon was also not available in the evening when it was switched off between 7 and 11pm. And the tv was indeed satelite but it had only 1 english channel out of 30 that had uncensored programs on ( there was effing and jeffing at 11am on a sunday morning).
and finally I must say that the rep was like the locness monster we had heard of her, and even knew her name but she was never actually seen, there was talk of some blurry pictures that a guest had taken where you could just about make out the shape of a rep, but i never saw her .
the hotel staff though were fantastic as were the cleaners who turned up every day.
check the link that says.. About Aghios Ioannis
as there is 1 small shop, no bars, and no tavernas.
there is no golf course within 20 km of the hotel
you have to catch several buses or a taxi for at least a 45 min drive to get to aqualand.
there are no sandy beaches on the east side of the island, and there are no water sports unless you count the lilo I took with me.
I can't get the link to work
I can't see a link there
(Sorry I still don't know how to do the linky thing even though Peter Of York did tell me how!)
Louby
Hotel and Aghios Ioannis links from First Choice, I particularly like they way that the resort page says it has a golf course but the hotel page says it's 24 km away!
