we have been twice during Ramadan and had no problems at all apart from a little guilt on my part about eating in front of staff that are fasting.
Regarding currency, i buy mine at the hotel as the rate is much better,i have never used dollars, only Egyptian currency .

And even if it isn't the source of stomach upsets, it absolutely stinks!
If you want to get duty free stuff on the way back it is worth taking dollars as they rip you off at the airport. All prices are in dollars and they use a conversion rate of 1.7 dollars to the sterling pound. says it all
Ramadan next year will be earlier than this year, and should finish before the start of October, so you needn't worry about your holiday coinciding with this.
