Has anyone got up to date information on Almirida? I'm looking at hiring a villa near there for a family holiday in early June, for myself and hubby, grown up daughter and husband and 2 year old grandson. We don't want anywhere too busy, just a quietish family resort, decent beach for little 'un and a reasonable choice of tavernas in the evening.
I have been to east and western Crete (Ag Nik and Maleme) but over 10 years ago now. We hired a car then, so know a bit of what to see. We will hire a car this time too to visit Chania, etc but I suspect daughter and husband will spend more time relaxing in the resort.
Any thoughts?

Sounds like Almirida will suit you fine. The beach can be a little windy at times but it ticks everything you say you're looking for. Kalives just up the coast is a bit bigger and will give you a bigger choice of tavernas but Almirida is lovely.
