We are 2 adults with a little girl who next year will be 4.
We are planning on holidaying in May/June on a greek isle.
Trouble is which island and which resort?
We are not looking for anywhere 'britishy', and are looking for an island with nice beaches, great snorkelling, great food/restaurants, history and intersting days out. We will be hiring a car - but do not want to be in the middle of nowhere.
Any ideas ???
Many thanks in advance......
So no-one has any recommendations then?
44 people have read this post - so there cannot be anywhere in the Greek Isles that fits our bill??
haven't been for a few years but I would say Crete fits the bill. I don't know anything about snorkeling though.
We're planning a family trip for next year, with my grown up daughter and family, including our 2 year old grandson. After much thought, we have decided on Almirida in Crete. It has a sandy beach, a selection of tavernas but isn't too big a resort. There are lots of places of interest to visit in the area. I also considered Parga and Stoupa both on the mainland and think they would nicely fit your bill too.
try finikounda on the mainland nice beach. only a small village not really been discovered by the brits. had a great holiday there this year
Kafelonia, gorgeous.
we are going to Zante may/june with our 8 year old. Staying at Windmill studios in Argassi. Never been to either before but reviews are fantastic. Can't wait!!
However, I'd say it's not the ideal destination with kids, not a whole lot for them to do.
That said, if you're not planning on going out of an evening this isn't such an issue. There are great beaches and like all the Greek islands the locals are very friendly and love kids.
Just my opinion obviously.
Hello Spicyshiraz, we are great lovers of Kefalonia been there many times, illness provented us going there this year, but althought beautiful, Greeks very friendly love kids, there is not a lot for the kids, parts of Corfu specially for first time visitors are great, but have to check them out first, Zante also had child friendly places, Lesvos was also nice, but transport from the airport can be a bit daunting with children, some destitations about 1-1/2 hours to get there or even longer, have been to many Greek Islands some so long ago things could have changed but think the Aegeian Isle would be the best
I would recommend that you try Petra, Lesvos. Lesvos is a huge Island, but, they don't rely on tourism for their income, therefore it isn't commercialised at all. It is perfect for exploring in a car. Although Petras' beach is a little shingly, you can find some wonderful beaches on your own. You can find isolated beaches perfect for snorkelling. We found one beach that had sand dunes in the sea! We found turtle ponds where the turtles come and take bread out of your hands. I could go on and on, telling you about the castle in Molyvos etc. It's a lovely island and ideal for kids. We went in 2002, and enjoyed it so much we went again in 2004. (The only time we have returned anywhere). We hired a car both times and still could go again and find lots of other places to visit. We will be going again. We stayed at the Blue Sky apts. which are ideal for families. All the kids make friends and look out for each other there, leaving the adults to make their own friends. Wish I was there now!

You could do a lot worse than try Thassos, great beaches very green and wonderful food.
The island is about 110 Kilometres around the coast road with great little Greek resorts and villages to visit.
