I can't help with your question but I was at st george in December and absolutely loved it. I was determined to go back in march but for the dates i want it's fully booked and dates round about it are too expensive (compared to what I expected to pay) so I'm off to Dominican Republic insted.

My husband and I stayed at St Georges for 2 weeks in October and it was really good. Def we would return. Only 2 weeny niggles, the first of which they sorted immediately with no trouble - we initially were given a double room facing the front which has a VERY busy road with huge trucks and traffic racing along day and night. We asked to move and we were given a lovely room at the back of the hotel overlooking the 'quiet' pool - there are 2 pools, 1 for the more active with games, activities, music etc and then the chill pool if you just want to relax, read, listen to own music etc. Both have bars so you don't need to wander far for your refreshments!!
The other niggle was that to get to their beach you need to use either their free shuttle or a taxi. The shuttle runs half hourly starting at 9.30am but as the hotel was full when we were there demand for the shuttle was high and to ensure a place on the first one you needed to be waiting outside by at least 9.00am and if you went on too late a shuttle all the sunbeds at the beach had gone. One day we went on the shuttle to the sister hotel beach = not impressed with beach area but snorkelling there was amazing!! Worth a day. (You can lunch at the beach for free but not at the main hotel if you decide to visit that - Kiroseiz I think it's called). Enjoy!! :sun ps be prepared to put on weight food wonderful!!!

Am thinking of booking this hotel for end July 09. Usually go to Turkey (last 5 years, same time of year) but fancy a change next year. Just a few ?

1 What sort of food is there for breakfast lunch tea
2 what are the temperatures like i'm used to about 42
3 is it easy to get out an about at night and is it safe
4 is there much else to do apart from stay at your hotel and what is the cost
5 is it value for money

Thanks very much. Di.

Hi

I stayed here 2 years ago, so I will try and answer the questions for you, but food aspect wont be too easy as we are vegetarians.

1 What sort of food is there for breakfast lunch tea -
Breakfast was cereals, toast, boiled eggs, freshly made omelette, different salads, baked beans (with large white beans!!). There were sausages, and an attempt at eggy toast which was quite sweet. Also a good selection of breads.
Lunch - freshly made pasta, salads, bread, chips, always 2 soups one of which was always veggie, cant remember what else!!
Dinners - again pasta, salads, breads, chips, carvery style meats, meats in sauces - also good range of fruit and deserts (for lunch as well.)

2 what are the temperatures like i'm used to about 42
In October it varied between 35 - 40 - it is displayed at the side of the small pool.

3 is it easy to get out an about at night and is it safe
It is ok to wander out at night, but if you are into walking after dinner like we are, there was nowhere to go. We found a few shops around 1 mile away, and a chemist a couple of hotels down, but in reality its Na'ama Bay or Sharm Old Market. You need to be in the queue for the minibus really early otherwise you have no chance, and the german guests like to push to the front!! Coming back was as bad. It is probably easier getting a taxi!!

4 is there much else to do apart from stay at your hotel and what is the cost
At night time - see above. During the daytime there was loads of "animation" around the pool - quizes, water polo, music etc - great for the kids. The beach is ok. The minibus to the beach is the same as Na'ama Bay. Get the first bus out though otherwise you wont get a sunbed as Kiroseis share the beach. The Kiroseis beach is smaller and rockier - with a floating jetty to get into the sea. It cost around £10 english for 2 adults 2 kids to go on their beach even though they are the same group, but yet they didnt have to pay to use our beach!!

5 is it value for money
Yes. If you are happy to stay around the hotel / beach then its great. Saying that we have never been to Egypt other than AI. But theres nothing better than knowing that all your food is payed for.

Hope this helps

Excellent reply sjbrody. And would you belive my son is veggie so he is always a worry. We too like to have a walk after dinner but it would be ok to get a taxi a few times and go into the towns.

Now what you mean about A/I having your food paid for. We usually go to Turkey (last 5 years) but this year the prices of soft drinks have gone through the roof. With 2 teenagers (well 18 and 16 now) we were spending around £50+ on drinks along a day). So thought we may try Egypt A/I. They do seem to have the food sorted and a very reasonable cost compared to other coutnries. Some reviews I have read for other countries in A/I say the food is terrible. It just the weather now that concerns me. We may well now ask hubby's works if he can have an extra week of in May and go then when its a bit cooler.

Thanks again for the info, very informative.

Hi,

Could anybody tell me whether there are hairdryers in the rooms and if so are they any good? Also, how big are the fridges in the room, are they the mini bar size ones or are they a bit more substantial?

Thanks

Dont remember about there being hairdryers, but the fridge was a standard under counter type - around 3 shelves - held around 6 x 1.5l bottles water and lots of smaller stuff as well
