hi everyone myself and my best friend ( in our mid 20's) are off to majorca for our hol, January 29th - february 7th, not been to majorca for about 12 years and so no doubt it's changed!
we're flying liverpool - palma with ryanair, touching down at teatime on the 29th! we're staying at kensington apartments (magaluf) and the holiday only cost us just over £100 each! We basically just went online, wherever the cheapest flight was to ...we booked!!
Am well aware it is out of season and not much will be open, that doesn't bother us at all, we just want to get away from work and home for 10 days!!! Some people have told us we've made a mistake and we'll not enjoy ourselves!! that don't seem to understand that we aren't looking for some club 18-30 style holiday, all we want is a relaxing time, a few decent bars, good food and some great trips seeing what majorca has to offer!!
Adam from goodfellows sent me a lovely message that gave us some hope that we've made the decision!
any one else have any reccomendations of places that will be open, places to visit etc....
Pink Lola, Majorca is lovely anytime of the year. Just enjoy what it has to offer, be prepared for the weather. Palma has lovely shops and plenty to see, I enjoyed going on the tourist bus seeing all the sites, hopping on and off, so much so Ive done it twice and WILL do it again this year. IT is better than being at home!!!! I am very jealous. Hope you have a lovely time, please let us know when you return. CBG
thanks cbg!! am really looking forward a well deserved break!!
We were in Palma Nova in 07 and 06 on the dates you are there and we had surprisingly good weather in the day time (it was chilly at night but it never kept us in)
We enjoy going into Palma and to Santa Ponsa on the local buses, and also to the other side of the bay to Can Pastilla.
We once went on a trip from local agents called the Almond Blossom Trail and visited several resorts and saw all the beautiful blossom.
Another good trip is to Soller and Valdemosa.
We are much, much older than you but we do lots of walking and we walk to Portals Nous and to the other side of Magaluf to Cala Vynes
We also manage to find a reasonable selection of bars open.
Hope you will enjoy Majorca as much as we always do.
Regards Sue
We go on the 3rd Feb to Puerto Soller for the walking, last year the weather was very pleasant but the year before we walked in snow. As Sue suggests try the train trip to Soller and See a different side to Mallorca.
I am sure Adam will put you right on Magaluf and it's available bars and entertainment.
Enjoy,
Dave
I live in magaluf, I return there on tuesday (8th of jan). I will post back once I'm there.
One question, you say you are "mid 20's" if one of you is 25, I would consider hiring a car. It shouldn't be expensive in January, this would give you a lot more freedom. Remember you'll save the €30 taxi fare each way to the airport.
Will post more (probably wednesday).
Robin
My first visit there was at Christmas years ago, we stayed in Santa Ponsa, although it was quiet we had a nice time. I think when the bars are less crowded you get to talk to people more.
I also think that when you visit in the winter you see the place properly, without the mad crowds.
Enjoy your holiday, don`t forget more and more people are doing short breaks, lots of hen and stag parties go there as well as groups celebrating birthdays ect. Not trying to put you off (hen and stag) but to say that it might not be as quiet as everyone else is saying.
Let us know how you go on.
Hi, Im'e sure that you will enjoy holiday in Jan/Feb. Weather usually not to bad for sight seeing etc. should be plenty to do in Palma, in Jan. Could be Feb until resort starts to liven up. Were in Palma Nova last year at this time and it was OK. Enjoyed fantastic boat trip.(glass bottomed). Beware of touts who start in February, offering Free holidays. This is a scam, so if approached, just walk away.
