Going to New York in 9 weeks and 5 days (not that I'm counting )
Have never been before so looking for as much advice and as many tips as you can give me.
Where to go, what to do, must see's etc
Can't wait to hear from you all!! Sunaholic
Do search the forum Sunaholic, you'll find loads of ideas
And there is also a New York topic at the top of our City Breaks forum.
I plan to walk in Central Park, down 5th Avenue, go up the Rockefeller Tower and perhaps the Empire State Building, catch the ferry to Staten Island, walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, visit Grand Central Station, The New York Library, Ground Zero (maybe), take pictures of the Chrsyler and Flat Iron Buildings,Visit the Metropolitian Museum and Moma, take in a show, eat a pastrami sandwich from a deli, eat a piece of cheese cake and.. and..
hope I can do it all in the four days that I will be there.
Oh! and do a bit of shopping of course.
Judith....thanks for an excellent list of things to do in NY!
Thanks for the tip Luci, I hadn't looked in City Breaks, just been going through this forum.
Judith, that list is fabulous!! Just about covers every thought (and more) that has popped into my head since we booked, but now it's down in print so I won't forget.

It's not a problem you asking in a new thread! it was just a suggestion until others posted
One of the day's we subbed to Groubnd Zero, walked to Staten Island Ferry, did that, then walked to Brooklyn Bridge crossed over and back.
Another day, we walked the length and breadth of Central Park, which is pretty tiring ! and it was a further 3 mile round trip to our hotel to the park..
So be prepared to do lots of walking, it's the best way to see the city..
Judith. best Cheesecake is at Juniors in Grand Central station.
I also recommend everyone who visits to try Lombardi's in Little Italy for Pizza, get there early say 11.30 for a lunchtime meal, as it gets very busy. it was the 1st Pizza place in America
Look for my post about NY - I detail what I did, and yeah, be aware, you will walk LOADS!!!
Lots of discount coupons available here for NY attractions.
Is Manhattan mid town? Where Empire state building is, not sure which to print off.
Yes it is in Midtown.... have a look at some webcams in the area.
Thanks alot emdia43
Getting lost's all part of the fun....The first time we went on the subway a few years ago we were told to get off at Port Authority terminal and transfer to a bus......needless to say, we missed the bus and half an hour later we were still trying find our way around Where the streets and avenues are numbered instead of named it really easy to find your way around, below that it gets a little difficult, a good map will always stand you in good stead.
I'd recommend a trip to chinatown, we loved it, though you do get folk stopping you every few yards asking 'handbag mam' just say no thanks and they leave you alone, century 21 at ground zero was also great for designer shopping, really reasonable. Times square was great and you've just got to pop in to the Charmin public toilets.....NY so awesome, can't wait to go back. Alison

We did a food walking tour of Greenwich village, which we really enjoyed - http://www.foodsofny.com
Lots of people recommend a Big Apple Greeter, they are locals who volunteer to show people around for a few hours and can take you places that are of the tourist trail. We may do it next time - http://www.bigapplegreeter.org
For discounts of broadway shows try http://www.broadwaybox.com
Central Park is huge, we spent a whole morning in there are only saw about a 3rd of it. If there's something in particular you want to see it 's worth getting a map to decide which route to take. Alternatively you can cycle around it - http://www.centralparkbiketour.com
As mentioned before Juniors in Grand Central Station is THE place to get cheesecake. The itself station is wonderful and next time we'll be taking the abandoned subway tour, which is supposed to be very good.
This site has lots of tourist info - http://www.nycvisit.com
