Thanks for responses on building works.

Having just returned from a brilliant week, can say for a definite fact if anybodys going - the building site is no probs whatsoever. Our room was within spitting distance but fortunately we had 3 balconies. 2 overlooking the pool and one the works - which were typical goan style - done by hand and/or foot and head!! - (in beige trousers and shirts)!!??!! Never heard a peep!!

Glad to hear the building works are OK - we are off there on 24 March and can't wait. :sun2

Does anyone have the Highland Beach email or number.

We are going with some friends in a couple of weeks and we have a Family room for us, our friends have 2 twins but would prefer a family room. If that is not available to adjacent rooms.

Hopefully Kiran will be able to accommodate

Thanks

Al

I am staying at the Highland beach next december, any ideas which would be the nicest rooms to request? thanks, shirley.

ShirleyV ask for a room over looking one of the pools, good if you want a drink on the
balcony at night, the rooms close to the second pool are better as the first phase
is now past it,needs upgrading, one tip!! either take a pillow or you can buy one in
Newton,s supermarket as the pillows at the Highland are rock hard, its a great place
to stay though :) :) :) sure you will love it

Just ask for more soft pillows and you`l get them, no kettle though, we bought one at newton`s and a couple of mugs only cost us abiut a fiver and was great for a cuppa first thing

We are regular visitors to Goa, however normally stay at the Marinha Dourada. As we have found in the past, we are more down at the Candolim end for restaurants in the evening, we decided to stay down that end when we return for a week in November.

We are staying at the Highland Beach Hotel, and have seen very mixed reports about it.

I would appreciate if anyone can give me an honest opinion of the hotel (we know what to expect in Goa), and also if anyone can recommend some good beach shacks close to the hotel, (as we normally go to Big Banana and Boscos in Baga).

Thanks.

Hi moana

We was going to buy an apartment at the Highlands about six years ago and if you are in the right part of the complex it is very nice, the restaurant was OK and there was with a Gym above it.

We did not buy because we could not find out if they had finished building and as it turned out they carried on building on ever inch of land they could find.

To answer your question it is a better than OK place if you have the right apartment, in a central position, with a good choice of restaurants in walking distant sadly the beach in candolim is been wrecked by the wreck (River Princess) but there are some good shacks.

I would sum it up be saying you have probably traded a very good hotel for a better than average one in a more convenient location

Hi Meagain

Thanks for your response. So is it better to try to get in the newer part of the Highland Beach Hotel? We normally are hardly in the hotel and just use it as a base, but obviously we want it to be clean and comfortable. I think it does look ideally located, but we will just need to find the best shacks to use during the day.

Thanks again.

Hi, I have stayed in both the MD and HB , loved them both, I prefer the location of the MD as I love Arpora . However our friends prefer Candolim, I don't really care where we stay because we use taxis every day to get around.
I prefer the breakfast in the HB and the rooms are much larger, I like the outlook of the MD better overlooking the lagoon, I think both are excellent quality hotels and would stay in either of them again, in fact I am booked for the HB next March :)
Have not used Candolim beach, but I did once go to Claudina's shack which was really nice :)

There's nothing wrong with the beach if you stay north of the River Princess and there are lots of reall good shacks.
I would recommend Pete's Shack as one of the best on that section of beach. :tup

Just to put the record straight meagain, Candolim beach is fine - it is further down towards Sinquerim that the shacks are suffering, but all those shacks along that stretch are still trading, possibly with regular customers only, so a round of applause to the good efforts they are putting in to keep going is needed.
Morna, there are quite a few small roads and paths that will take you down to the beach once you have come out of the Highland and crossed the Candolim/Calangute main road, Ganesh shack down Whispering Palms beach road is worth a look in.
