I have booked my wedding with Thomas Cook for 39 passengers to stay in the Rui Palace Las Americas Cancun, the date is for 19th August 08 and we booked in late January.
We were given a good discount and booked, handing over our deposits. A few days later I went into the shop and noticed the computer screen said Riu "Playacar" I queried this but was told everything was fine,we were booked into the correct hotel.
We continued to pay off our holiday and make wedding arrangements until a Thomas Cook sales person phoned me to tell me, not only had they booked us in the wrong hotel but in the wrong area!
After apologising and admitting they were wrong but were going to rectify the problem I had to deal with a a number of phone calls telling me I would have to change the date to the 26th of August but that they wouldn't charge us extra ( how kind, I had booked reception party, invites and wedding outfits by this point!) It was very stressful they kept on suggesting we must change the date to cover their costs. I work in a school and am not allowed time off in the term, there in also the added problem of wedding guests getting their children to school on time and the friends and family booked into other hotels. They know this but as the 19th is more expensive we have to change or pay an extra £100 per guest! A total of £3900! They are blackmailing me into paying! No money, no wedding!
Does your invoice say the correct hotel?

thanks ! will phone her monday morning what office is she based at ?
Hang on to the holiday invoice, don't let the travel agent or any third party get hold of it, perhaps even take a couple of photocopies.
I agree get on to Ros.What a horrendous situation Sharp. That 26th August week would of been cheaper at the time anyway so you are most definately not getting what you paid for , as you point out its too late for anyway who wants 2 weeks to be back at school on time and that is why it would of been cheaper. One thing that bothers me though is are they entitled to just cancel your holiday and refund what you have paid leaving you in deep poo. I am sure if you check terms and conditions that they are within their right to do that. I agree this is blackmail.
if i say i am not paying the extra £100 each because it is thomas cooks error what would be the reason for them to cancel, i can only see in booking rules that they can put prices up to cover fuel prices, dues, disembarkation/embarkation fees at airport or exchange rates.
sharp . have a look on the terms and conditions section on "cancellation by us". Ive been on the thomas cook site and Im still trying to find their booking conditions
If there is an Invoice clearly stating, Date, Hotel etc then it is their mistake and I can't see how they could make you pay the extra .....
I really hope you get this sorted out...
