Guitar Hire

I don't think that you will be able to hire one. There is very poor music shop in Panjim. Cheap acoustics can be bought in India for about £30 or less but I think you may have to go to Mumbai for any kind of selection.

Givson .... terrible build quality, I've tried a few of these. These are made in Calcutta and usually need set-up to do a gig.

I'd personally take a cheap guitar in a gig-bag.

my husband is guitar mad and certainly misses them when we're on holiday(he has 4!) there is amusic stand in candolim high street that sells bongos, percussion and so on,and the chap there had an old accoustic guitar that he said my husband can hire next time-didn't mention a price though.

"my husband is guitar mad"

Not as mad as me, I have 7!

Oh and if you do hire that guitar, take a set of strings.

Personally you would be better buying a cheap chinese acoustic guitar (used) here and sell it when you get back from your holiday, you would probably not lose much money on the deal. Because there isn't much luggage change on these tourist charters, a gig bagged guitar with the guitar wrapped in bubble wrap should be OK in the hold and not too heavy. I've travelled UK with gig-bagged guitars in the hold (allbeit bolt on neck Fenders copies) I WOULD NOT do this with any guitar of great value, ABS cases are cheap these days. Cheap acoustic guitar wrapped should survive, make sure loads of FRAGILE stickers.

Last November I noticed one of the shops/stalls across from the Dona Alcina selling guitars he had about 6, don't know what they were like, but if you take a set of strings they may be ok. At the end of the holiday you can always donate it to a orphanage.

Yes I know the stall. You can buy cheap chinese acoustics here for £60 which are much better. Indian instruments really are terrible, it amazes me that they can make incredible jewellery but when it comes to guitar building, no eye for detail whatsoever. Many big manufacturers have been looking at India but they don't seem to have got it right yet.

my husband has an older guitar that he says he can take the neck off and is thinking of taking that packed in the suitcase as he doesn't take a lot of clothes,or he could do like you say and take it in a gig bag.personally i love 2 weeks guitar-strumming free!
