I don't need glasses but I know there are a couple of good optitians in Margao on the municipal square on the opposite side from the petrol pumps. There is also a large dept store in Margao called I think it's Big G's (I'll check though I am sure someone will know) which sells pretty much everything.

Hi tightjock i went to Big C when i visted margoa for the dentist it only has a very small food floor and i was told that it was very expensive compared to the other supermarket in margoa, i did buy a few thing there but no where near what i will have to buy this time. It would be great if anyone knows the names of the opticans and bag shop.

Opticians I was pleased with - http://frankopticians.com/contact-us.html
Royal Foods in Margao is excellent for chicken , pastries and cakes, and do some good take away food.
Further down the same street on the opposite side is a well stocked small supermarket . No bag shop in Colva or Margao, if you are looking for a good leather bag , not a fake copy , I'd go to Panjim and look at Hidesign on MD road, small selection also in Saga store Cavelossim . Shops like John Lewis stock this brand in the UK.

I was in Margao last week and frequented the Big C store. I did wonder if the prices would be higher than the 'street' seller! I did only buy moisturisers, lotions etc. When compared to Newtons in Candolim there was little or no difference in price, it seems that prices of those item and medications is already printed on them.Although the store is small in comparasion to UK it has seven floors, the sixth being a small supermarket and the seventh a vegetarian restaurant (very highly recommended) Their ginger lime soda is to die for! We did not try Royal foods but it looked very nice, and clean! Peppers was also recommended (opposite side to Big C) about 500 yds away from the town area.
I took another HT's advice and looked for handbags (fakes) at Leather Touch in Candolim. There is lots to choose from and the prices are much cheaper (you can haggle) than I paid in Thailand last year.
Happy holidays

Oh Dear !
I'm terrible with directions, but it's the road that runs parallel to the main shopping street, if in doubt just ask any local.
If you have the Lonely Planet guide book it's marked on the map.
ps If you like books the Golden Heart Emporium is worth a visit, near the Post Office.

Thankyou lassigirl. I am also not good with directions as my poor husband will confirm.
Saggy did you use Dr hubert Gomes in Margoa?
Yes Gel we did...did you? We were there last two weeks in Feb!
Yes i did also, what a lovely man and his wife was very nice also. what great prices he charges, we were there the beginning of january for two weeks, i will be going back for more work when we go back at xmas. i had 5 implants done this time and will be having some bridging and some crowns next time.
Yes Gel, very good dentist, lovely wife and staff. I had planned to have a lot (I thought done) but he said not to waste my money when most of my teeth did not really need the work(just my vainity
I had 3 crowns and a great clean and polish
My husband had 2 implants and 4 crowns done, very pleased with the results. As you say, saved ourselves a small fortune.
Well it is bedtime here in Delhi, have a good evening, where ever you are.
Goodnight

Saggy have PM you.
There's a good bag shop (& jeweller) on the left as you start to rise up the small hill after the 'big posh shop' as you go into Cavelossim from the North - I know this not cos I have a bag fetish, but my wife does & her switch card didn't work, but my visa debit card did!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hemingway.
Hemingway.
Do you mean the shop called, Musk, that sells the fake handbags, hemmingway ?
I'll take your word for it that they are fakes - all I know is they were leather (at least they smelt of leather) in various colours & they didn't seem in the least bit expensive - 'musk' does sound familiar as the shop's name. Must remember to look when I ride past on Saturday or Sunday. Hemingway.
