Hi, Looking at going to Praia de Luz (Ocean Club) in May time, what is everyone's view on this? Is it any good? I heard Lagos is well worth a visit, I know taxi's are pretty cheap but is it in walking distance?
We are big seafood eaters, where would people recommend?
Thanks
hi welcome to HT
Thanks, the topics posted were very useful. Looks really nice and review are generally good. My only remaining query is how far is it to Lagos, can I walk there and how long would it take?
Thanks
I think Sagres once talked of a clifftop walk you could do from Lagos to Luz, so I guess it would work the other way as well. It was more a pleasant way to pass an hour or two though. Also Lagos and Luz have had the builders in, particularly in the Porto de Mos area, there were a few cranes about so I don't know how walkable it all is anymore. I think Porto de Mos is on the Luz side but I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong?
You might be better off with cabs back and forth or there may be local buses if you wish to go to Lagos in the morning and spend the day there.
I stayed at the Ocean Club when my kids were little we enjoyed it and we visited Luz this summer when we went to Lagos. I was pleased to see Luz was busy (July) and that the recent tragedy hadn't stopped people from travelling there.
Thanks for the reply. That great, look more likely that it will be a taxi or bus then. 4km does not seem too far for us as long as there is a route to walk and its not all motorways, busy roads etc.
There is a cliff walk between Luz/Lagos but I have never done it. The road is not walking friendly. There is a lovely cliff walk Luz/Burgau which takes between an hour and an hour and a half.

Note that the winter timetable will still apply in May so the buses are not all that frequent at weekends. Fare is €1.80 for adults.
Thanks for all your replies.
Lagos is walkable from Luz along the clifftop but only in daylight as the cliffs are subject to severe erosion and would be extremely dangerous in darkness. There is a steep ascent at the Luz end of the walk and, once you reach Ponte da Piedade, you can hitch a ride on the Lagos tourist train from there to shorten the trek if you wish;there's a little cafe/bar there to help you while away the wait for the train as well. On the return trip, the train will eliminate the uphill walk out of Lagos and the remaining walk is either on the flat or downhill;the beach bar at Porto de Mos is the last watering hole 'til you reach Luz.
