Right here goes, quite an un-eventful 9 nights but if you're interested here it is.
Tue 18th march, left Liverpool on the 6.00am flight with Ryanair, and I have to say the best flight that I've ever done to Tenerife. Arrived at 10.30am, had my case by 10.50am and was in our palm beach apt for 11.15am. Quick un-pack and down to the pool bar for breakfast, and off for a nap on a sunlounger.
Afternoon was spent sitting in the vic bar on geranium walk with friends.Met laws of this board. Had 1 to many and felt a bit merry, but put it down to tiredness, (well you have to blame something) back to the apt for an hours sleep. Decided to have an early night, so we just nipped over the road to the drop inn, to see Ronnie me old mate, and we watched, a black lace tribute fella, who was good. Followed by a brilliant Neil diamond act. Off to bed for midnight for some well earned sleep.
Wed 19th up early and down to the pool for a few hours on a sun lounger, weather not to bad, sun kept going in behind the clouds, but managed to get a bit of colour, even went in the pool. Went down to Puerto colon and to hoppers for a quick pint and a bet on the last race. Girls decided that they wanted tea at Aunties chippy, wasn't to keen myself, but went with the flow. Just had fish chips and mushy peas, service was slow and was the worse meal I'd ever had, fish was all batter and no fish, chips were cold, peas were nice. Won't be going back here.
Tonight was spent in the Temple bar, because we couldnt get in the theater bar, again met up with laws of here, brilliant, got to see, my lovely Liam who plays here, glad I went tonight, as he is going back to Ireland for 5 months, but will be back when I return in November. Had a great night, even did lots of dancing. Returned for a hot chocolate on our balcony overlooking the sea.
Thur 20th again up early down to the pool again, did a few lengths to try and keep the jelly belly down. Again sun was in and our, then around 2.00pm it didn't' come out again. So it was of down to hoppers again for a few drinks and a few more bets. Hoppers can be a sun trap when the sun is out.
Ate at la gomera on geranium walk and had a lovely meal.
Decided to walk down to San euginos, and we went in the Theatre bar. We'd made arrangements to meet laws and his wife of here, had a great night, watched Nick page who has a fantastic voice. Was glad we sat outside, as it was very loud outside. But is a really lovely bar, but is expensive for drinks. Had a nice walk home and again a nice hot chocolate on the balcony.
Fri 21st again up early, made brekkie in the apts had bacon and egg (ooops forgot it was good Friday) off to the pool, hoping to be able to stay longer in the sun, but again no such luck, just a few hours, and it was bye bye sun, after covering myself in towels and trying to keep warm. Decided to walk down the los cristainos only got half way, as we kept stopping of for a few drinks on the way. Then changed our minds and went back to heads n tails pub to watch Saints beat Wigan on the big screen, so this called for a celeberation drink.
So only got back to our apt at 8.00pm, went downstairs in palm beach and got some beers and wine, and ordered chicken and chips, with free bottle of wine for 6 euros, great price. , so we decided to stay in, and we had a great night playing cards and dominos on the balcony.
Sat 22nd, so we try again at the pool, but again the sun keeps disappearing and we don't' know what were going to do. So back for a long walk down geranium walk, where to yes you have guessed it hoppers and a few more bets and a pint, then the sun came out and we went to kitty o sheas for a few cheap pints.
Back to our apt and a couple of hours sleep.
That night the girls had decided to take our friend Norman out for a belated birthday meal, Norman was 80 a few weeks ago, and we couldn't go go his party. So Norman and 7 women went for a fantastic night out at the greek restaurant underneath palm beach, called the limmassol. Had a great time fantastic food and even had greek dancing with plate smashing.
Nipped over to the quayside bar, for a few last few drinks.
Sunday 23rd, got up late and decided to venture to the beach, best day we had managed to say asleep for a few hours, on the sun lounger. Then went for a walk down geranium walk towards Puerto colon. Met up with the girls in the castle bar, and stopped for a drink to see the sun go down. The girls were eating Sunday dinner, and I did something I said I would never do again, eat here, I ordered Sunday dinner, causes the girls looked nice, and they said it was lovely. And I have to eat my words (said i would never eat here again) it was nice, the beef was fine and the roasties and veg great (can't say perfect because my Sunday dinner is perfect)
Off for a kip, then 4 of us went out for the night, walked up to the brum bar, had a drink here, and dropped in Oscars, but it was quite empty. We knew that there was a motown act on at legends, next-door to the castle bar. So we went here and had a fantastic night. The motown group were brilliant as was Deano the compare. It rained on the way home and we got a bit wet.
Monday 24th, my birthday, woke up to cake and champagne, by hubby and my mates. Then went down to the pool, only again to see those bloody clouds. So again a wander down to hoppers for a bet. People said that it rained round the parque Santiago area, well it never rained at all at puerto colon.
At night me and my gang went to mama rossas for a lovely meal, then we tried to get into the anchor bar and couldn't as it was chocker. So we went to murphys, next-door to wigan pier. And managed to get seats, all had a brilliant night, plenty of drinking and loads of dancing.
Tue 25th woke up late with a hangover, went round the pool, and hey presto the sun was out, managed to stay at the pool till 2.00pm, then went for a walk down to los cristainos. The prom will be lovely when it is finished.
Went to el cine for a fish meze, had prawns, octopus, squid and hake, also had fried chicken. Were only us and a load of locals in, who'd had a few and were singing very loud, but was very entertaining.
Walked back to palm beach and had a nice bottle of wine sat on the balcony sun in our faces, watching it go down over la gomera.
Went to the strip (under parquet de la paz) and visited most of the bars, ending up in the bullshead watching a group from bosnia, and they were great. got to meet barry davies2 again, even bought me a vodka, well you little, you know what you did this year, i knew it was you.
Wed 26th Decided to try the beach early, as it seems this is when the sun came out, at 11.30am after lying there on a beach towel, with hubbys towel over me I'd had enough, and went back to the room. Decided to to on the rocks opposit palm beach for a bit of fishing, and got there sorted rod out caught 2 fish, then saw the lifeguard coming at us, told us no fishing on this side of the rocks, because people have been hooking swimmers. So that was the end of that. Back to the apt for a nice brandy coffee. Decide to go down to hoppers again, for a pint and a bet, wore my cardy it was freezing. Did well on the horses, and came away with a few quid. Off up to san euginos and bought some perfume, got givenchy - irresistible and Armani - code (well done horses)
Picked up 20 packs of l/b (well you takes your chances)
Back to palm beach got ready and went to El gomero for a nice meal, back of the Caribe hotel, opp the police station. Then wandered down to the travellers rest (next door to leonardos) to watch the 2nd half of football, then ambled down to the railway, off to the sax bar, and then decided to go to shenanigans, to see the lads, forgot that it was roxys night, so the lads went back to the sax bar, there not to keen on roxy, and us girls had a very enjoyable last couple of hours in the company of roxy. Came out at 2.00am went to the chippy next-door to the railway, and walked home, for a brandy on the balcony, got the binoculars out and watched everyone in veronicas, (there very powerful)
Got to bed at 3.00am, and had to be up at 7.00am the next morning.
Thur 27th up at 7.00am to leave at 8.00am for the airport, was tired, but airport was brilliant, as it was so quite, ryanair flight again left on time and was great all way home, well I think that it was as I slept most of the way.
Arrived back at Liverpool at 3.00pm collected my case and walked out, no customs (phew) to be met by my friend, 20 mins later I was home.
That is what I did in my few days there, I've not much time now, but I will give my opinion, on the changing las Americas in another post.
You kept a great diary.
Do you own in PBC? How do you deal with "Customer Services"?
Did you notice on the sea front in Los Christianos that a set of two tracks are being placed near the beach front? Any idea what they are for?
Kind regards,
Billyboy.
always write down on a slip of paper where we have been etc
we have 2 weeks in nov, and loads of our friends have 2 weeks in march, which is why we always go twice a year.
March is spent in a 2 bed overlooking the sea right on the front, well our bedroom is on the back overlooking the mountains.
Nov is spent on floor 12.
Customer services we just don't bother with them, when they come a knocking we just tell them no thanks. And that were on holiday, and dont want to see a re-furbished apt. When they stick the letter through we just ignore it, and the phone calls as well.
A lot of the studios on the front were being re-wired, and most of the floors on the landings have been re-tiled. Floors 6 and 7 were being done whilst we were there.
They are strict now on the sunbeds, the lads come round and turn the bottom of the matresses up, then come round an hour later if the matress is still turned up, they take the towels. About time to.
But the problem now is the fact that people are now taking 2 matresses, we had beds but no matresses, so we complained, and the lads went round taking the 2nd matresses off people.
Yes i did notice the track lines, and wondered what they are for, they do seem about the same width as train lines.
I may see you there next november.
The 'tram lines' are actually drains, according to my other half! They are made of wood, so wouldn't be any good for a train or tram!
it could be a small train to take you from the beginning of the beach, to the market.
should be nice when it is finished, have to say i'm real pleased with how las americas on the front is now, over the past 2 years i've watched it all been done. Not over keen on the fountains, outside of drop inn, watched them being made, and saw them in action this year, infact they kept us awake at tea time.
Other Half says that because it is a large expanse of space, there will be lots of water to get rid of when it rains. The 'tram lines' are to set the levels so when they pave it the water will run down the drains. If you look carefully, there are a whole series of gulleys to take the water in between the tram lines. Tram lines are NOT made of wood! Train to market is a nice idea, but not gonna happen!
lanzafan
we thought pdla was quiet at night considering it was busy during the day.
The tram lines are odd as they only go a short way, haven't a clue what they are for, we thought a tram, but it would be pretty pointless given the length of it.
had the vodka on the bar as well chris.... with only 1 cube!!!!!!
...............next time eh!!
...............next time eh!!
i had half of las americas looking for you.
I did find out where your now working, but it was on the wed night, and i was coming home on the thur. So providing your still there nov i will be making the walk up to your bar.
But did meet a few people who knew you.
Happy birthday Chris (although I'm a bit late) glad you had a good time on your holiday
i sold the old bar in pueblo canario (now called oscars) and i bought a new place in los cristianos.....................
A few people from oscars knew you, and a guy in heads n tails, and scotch corner and the brum bar. See i did ask, i'll pm you the name of your bar.
And in nov it is a double vodka tonic, still with 1 ice cube.
As always, another great report. Always worth waiting for your feedback as it is so informative. Any new members looking for info could do a lot worse than search for your posts, probably find all the info they need. . Sounds as if you and the gang had another great time even if the weather was a bit iffy. We did'nt manage out this March, not out until October, so a bit of a hang on . Oh, and a belated Happy Birthday, hope you had a great night.
Gordon.
Please name the bar
If you go then you can get my vodka for me, but make sure he doesn't put 2 ice cubes in.
C'mon Chris.
Which bar was it
We had some rain up at the Caledonia - everyone abandoned the pool by 3pm and we had an early shower and a nice walk down to San Eugenio shops for a bit of retail therapyMonday 24th ... went down to the pool, only again to see those bloody clouds ... People said that it rained round the parque Santiago area, well it never rained at all at puerto colon.
As you came home on the Thursday (27th) the clouds all went away and it was wall-to-wall sunshine from that point onwards , but with a bit of a calima the last few days - I got burnt on the Wednesday (2 April) using the same suncream I'd been using for the previous few days and spending the same amount of time in the sun
We did the Teide/Icod/Garachico/Masca trip on Wednesday 26th March - saw plenty of rain and clouds over on the north-west coast. Teide was spectacular as ever in clear sunshine, but it was coats, gloves and scarf temperatures up there!
Went to Loro Parque on Saturday 29th - fell in love with the orcas - we actually managed to see them twice, and also squeezed in the dolphins, sea-lions (hilarious as always), penguins, gorillas & chimps and shark tunnel - good job it's our third time there, so we know our way around the park
We didn't venture out much in our second week, it was so nice to finally get all-day sunshine we just sat and made the most of it, although we did get a bus down to the Med Palace/Safari Centre area one morning to have a look around the lovely shops - got a few fragrance bargains in Riu, and son got nice shoes from the Levis shop. Reminded ourselves of how nice it is down there, and decided this would definitely be our last time staying anywhere up the hill over the motorway.
Glad you had a nice birthday Chris. No better place to be!
