Jannerlily, my husband is also self employed in the building trade so he is off for about 2 weeks , it really makes perfect sense for us to go away at Xmas, I do remember your report , cannot recall , where did you stay?
Good idea to get a dress made too.
just been on the Jewel in the Crown site and they are offering hotel/guest house holidays, 14 nights flying on Fri 12 Dec 08, for under £800.
I booked with First choice about 10 weeks ago and got a deal on the Osborne Hotel 3 weeks flying Christmas day (08) for £920 pp, do hope you get sorted, keep us posted on your findings, there is a holiday out there for you, search "don't jump in".....jxk8
why not get place to stay and just get flights to mumbi then goa you get some good deals last minute, but you can also get your leg lifted due to it been xmas also. best deal we got was 14 day for flying back boxing day for 4 adults inc xmas gala dinners 740 for all 4, 3 years ago. we had visas as we had been there in october so couldnt resist it booked 2 days before going was only draw back but deals can be had sometimes.
Will check out the Jewel in the Crown site.
Have looked at flying scheduled but the cheapest I found was £700. Most were £1000 each.
We have one last look around before I make OH decide!! Will let you know how I get on.
Thanks everyone for all your help/advice

Can I ask that you don't post in phone text style, eg r u instead of are you?
Some of our visually impaired members use screen readers that do not recognise this type of text.
Thanks.

i stayed at the Osbourne last year jxk8. No complaints from me about it. Would have prefered to be in Candolim but as the Osbourne is on the outskirts of Calangute its not too hectic around the hotel. If you want airconditioning ask for Phase 2. I emailed them last year before i went. No one answered me but when i arrived i was put in Phase 2 ! But you will be charged for this on arrival. Ive never been over the new year period so i dont know if AC is needed. Ive been twice in March/April and i feel you need it then as it is starting to get quite humid. Feel free to ask about any other querys you may have.
I went into the Hotel in December (07) and met James the manager who seemed a nice guy and said anything that we needed we have only to ask, looking forward to staying there, maybe we will get together to have a beer or ten ?
your not an Evertonian buy any chance? jxk8....
the beer or 10 sounds good to me. No im not an Everton fan. Further north, other side of the border. Where are you from ?
if I said 5 times champions (euro) cup winners in the north of England would be a big clue?
And if I can guess your neck of the woods, would I be far away in saying the Glasgow area. :offtop.
And yes looking forward to one or ten with you and your family.
Sorry mods for being :offtop....jxk8
Having only been to Goa once before, I am not too good on where everything is and not too bright with directions!!. I stayed at The Osborne last time. Does anyone know where the Phoenix Park is in relation to here??? Also, does anyone know if air con is standard in the rooms or is this payable locally? Cheers for your help.
for all going on in Candolim some great places to eat and a short walk to the beach.
Air con is included no extras to pay, safe in room free you pay a deposit for the safe key
also a fridge[small] with mini bar,and kettle with tea&coffee, filled on arrival then buy your own.
Stayed there twice and will be back,we found the rooms over reception much bigger than the
other blocks although they don,t have balcony,s.
Hope this helps
Ann
Thanks for that Ann. Am sure I will like the Phoenix Park. Good news about the air con as OH will definately want it, he always does! Also good news about the kettle. No matter where we go OH always wants he cuppa, so that will save lugging the travel kettle with us. Do you know where the Phoenix Park is in relation to the Osborne. Just trying to get my bearings? Thanks
as you have stayed at the Osbourne you will know its the Candolim side of Calangute,
do you know Candolim at all ? if so let me know where,i can then give you more information
ANN
Hi Ann, sorry I dont know Candolim very well at all. I didnt really venture very far in that direction, always headed more into Calungute/Baga. I only went just a little further than Daytrippers office. If PH is further up than this I wouldnt know where it was anyway.
Hi Jannerlily its quite a way past day trippers, its down the lane opposite the new hotel
Thanks for your help, Tina
Always book Xmas/New Year as soon as I return from Goa which this year was around 6th January so I can get what I want as regards flight and hotel. This post is to alert others who have already booked and may think they are flying out of Birmingham to Goa 2008/2009 season that in fact they're not you will be going from East Midlands. Have not been told about this change by Thomsons but purely found it by accident whilst accessing their website yesterday.
