Not really surprised Neil, Lonely Planet described it as " Russia Town " two years ago.

I found that clip absolutely shocking as did my o/h . and we live here!!....... someting has to be done and you can begin to understand the feeling here about foreigners buying property...... if this is the crux of the problem then i can see why there is agitation here its not the brits they really have a problem with re buying property but this terrible situation that has been allowed to happen ... IMO...

I think it has gone so overboard now that all is lost in Goa and it's happened very fast as well! Still next visit will probably be the last.

Goa plans to develop 'Western Circuit' for tourism

Why didn't they think of this BEFORE all the illegal building started. Too many 'business men' with too little vision developing another coastal development is not the way forward. Developing inland retreats like Wildernest or similar would be a start. Climbing/Adventure holidays etc... something more positive might happen.

Whilst it is desperately sad that two people have been drowned in Morjim I was surprised to hear this on the 9 o'clock news last night and can't help but think that this is more negative press against Goa.

As regulars to this forum and Goa itself i'm sure other forum readers will appreciate that other UK nationals have lost their lives to the Arabian Sea yet I can't recall pre this season and all that has happened that this has been reported on the National News.......is it me being paranoid or is their a conspiracy plot going on to damm Goa totally???

I don't think you are being paranoid, as read I it on the BBC website and thought the same thing.

Saw the story in a national newspaper yesterday. The story was accompanied by a big brightly coloured box with the words " 16 tourists have drowned this year alone off Goas deadly coast". Definitely agree there's a bit of scaremongering going on.

Don't think it's a case of being paranoid.........it's fact
Also not a case of scaremongering........it's fact
It's about time the Goan tourism industry and the UK travel agents stopped proclaiming Goa's "Pristine beaches and sparkling Arabian waters" and told it how it is.
If you venture out above waist height you had better be strong, you'd better be good.......period.
People aren't drowning in 20 feet of water in Goa, they are drowning in 5 feet because of the undertow and currents. You would think statistics alone would at least produce some " It's dangerous to swim signs" at points along the beaches, although there are some at Fort Aguada, but thats because of the rocks hidden 2 feet below the surface, all due to the erosion.

Very true Eddie, maybe it may serve as a warning to old and new visitors to Goa that the sea here is dangerous. I saw 2 young kids being helped from the sea at Ashwem, both around the 10 year old mark, their parents had let them play on the rocks at the end of the beach near Rockbites, if it hadn`t been for the actions of 2 British lads it could have been a different story altogether :(

I couldnt agree more, my O/H has risked his life on more than one occassion bringing people in who were drowning. It does need signs on the beach and in brochures, IT IS a FACT and more common sense from tourists, ...Indian and European alike, i feel they should also have lifeguards, which has infact been mentioned here in the paper yesterday or day before. These seas are dangerous and although they can be enjoyed they do need caution...... I infact almost drowned here myself 10 or so years ago!! :(
