as a technical point, topless/nude bathing is illegal in Greece, although a blind eye is turned if discretion on where and when is used, as to specific locations i cannot help but I'm sure one of our other members will be able to

Remember that this is illegal in Greece both because of the offence that may be caused to others and because many beaches are connected with churches or monasteries.

Naturism is NOT illegal in all of Greece. The naturist beach in Faliraki is under the control of the local council. On another point. Will someone explain to me,if naturism is illegal in Greece, why are the phalic symbals, porno cards & dvds ok to be on sale in shops. These are more offensive & can be seen even by children as they shop with or without parents.

I cannot comment on the legality of nude sunbathing, but I can tell you that in my years of experience on the island, I've seen many topless women sunbathing on Psarapoula, Elli and Lindos beaches (including my girlfriend) and never heard or seen a complaint. There were children around (including some who were completely naked). It's very refreshing for me as an American to see the natural form treated like the very normal thing it is. You'd be arrested and called a pedophile for nude sunbathing in a lot of places in the states.

tpebop is correct. Naturism is perfectly legal if the local municipality has approved a specific area within its 'borders'. There is no nationwide ban or law in existance that prevents it and the control is left to local authorities.

One thing though, when on an approved naturist beach, is to cover up should a local person ask you to. If the local person is elderly then you don't wait to be asked, you do it right away. A local sometimes will not hesitate to call the police when that courtesy hasn't been observed.

I love Greeks and have visited their country for many, many years but it is double standards. Orthodoxy does not approve but money in a local person's pocket for providing food, drink, sunbeds etc can make them discretely ignore. This happens regularly and not just when it is about naturism.
