So sorry for your loss.
Be assured, in time the pain will go and you will have memories that are to be cherished. I've been there too.
Gordon.

What a terrible time this must be for you and your family. My thoughts and condolences are with you.
We saw you getting tired,
And a cure was not to be,
So He put His arms around you
And whispered "Come to Me".
With tearful eyes we watched you,
and saw you pass away.
Although we loved you dearly,
We could not make you stay.
A Golden Heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands to rest,
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best

oh those words are so beautiful.
Those words are truly beautiful and I am sure will be of great comfort to all of Dave's family.
My deepest sympathies and condolences to you and your family.
Dave was a diligent moderator on HT since 2002 and a highly valued member of the team. I know how his loss has affected each and every moderator and admin. Our hearts sank at the news and a lot of tears have been shed. Dave will be greatly missed by the admin team, the moderators and, of course, the membership who relied on his expertise and knowledge in running the HT photo albums as well as the forums he moderated.
Very few of us have met offline and yet the feeling of loss is no less. We've lost a comrade, a friend, a valued member of our team, a man who spoke his mind when it counted and who carried out his duties as a moderator diligently and without fuss.
Our thought and prayers are with you all at this very sad time.
God bless
Regards
Vanlaywan
This may help - my brother read it at my mum's funeral in December
"Death is nothing at all,
I have only slipped into the next room
I am I and you are you
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.
Call me by my old familiar name,
Speak to me in the easy way which you always used
Put no difference in your tone,
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was,
Let it be spoken without effect, without the trace of shadow on it.
Life means all that it ever meant.
It it the same as it ever was, there is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near,
Just around the corner.
All is well."
Helen
Very nice and such appropriate words Helen, so sorry to hear about your mum.
I am really sorry to hear of this news. My thoughts and condolences are with you and your family.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your Family at this sad time in your lives.
RIP Allmen

Glynis,
I think it would be real fitting Glynis if those who wished to send flowers / cards in his memory gave some donation to cancer research - that would be fitting and I know he'd hope the reseach would maybe allow others to survive in the future.
You can forward this note to the others who wanted to send their sympathies in the snail mail - but please assure them that for the family those sympathies coming in an online format mean every bit as much as the cards on the mantle piece in the house.
Thanks you for the support it is greatly appreciated.
Derek
Marion and family x
God Bless.
The Old Boys
The old Boys
Are all leaving
Leaving one by one
Where young birds go flying
Spread your wings and run
But over the fields
By the drystone walls
An eagle will come no more
Welcome
Were the headlands
St Valery behind
No medals worth wasting
On memories of sand
But sweet is the breeze
Over Raasay
The morning awaits you there
What kind
Of heroes
Here for us now
Where leaders, stone preachers
Minnows on flow
But low hang the lights
Over Viewfield
And this night will day see no more
The old Boys
Are all leaving
Leaving one by one
Where young birds go flying
Spread your wings and run
But over the fields
By the drystone walls
An eagle will come no more
Till the eagle flies again..........
We really cannot express completely in words the feelings of pride and astonishment at the responses you have all written about dad. He is a very private and quiet man and would have been extremely proud and a touch embarased at the many words of condolonse and praise that are above.
Many here have had to encounter grief and sadness through the loss of a loved one - its a little bit easier knowing that others are thinking about you during these difficult times.
Somewhere dad's seeing all of this unfold and he'll be hoping the next time each of us are abroad we enjoy our holidays to the full and raise a glass to all our loved ones we'd wish were with us.
Thanks for the words of comfort everyone -
RIP Dad - you will be missed but will forever be loved.
Janet, Caron and Derek
