Once we have checked in, we go straight through into the departure lounge. Depending on the time of day, we either go straight into the duty free or we have a snack somewhere then go into duty free.
About 2 to 2 1/2 hours before departure we go into the Aviance lounge for a few cups of coffee and something stronger and just chill out until our flight appears on the screen.
we usually go from manchester but are going from birmingham this time, what is Birmingham airport like, is there plenty of shops like at manchester? are the shops any cheaper than the high street like the clothes shops?
Oh and the kids stock up on Pringles and things for on the plane.
Birmingham is quite a good airport and we were pleasantly surprised when we flew to Malta from there. Obviously it is not as big as Manchester but there are still plenty of shops and places to eat etc.
Then it's time for a bite to eat and a mooch around the shops for papers. magazines and
some sweets/pringles for on the plane.
Then if there is any time left before having to board the plane, my OH and eldest son usually
their first *holiday* drink!
Then onto the plane, locate your seat, RELAX and up, up and away!!
We normally look at the duty free shops, mainly the make up ones, and the perfume. Then we buy magazines, newspapers, snacks and drinks in WHS Smiths. If we arrive at the airport early, we have breakfast in McDonalds. We sometimes get lunch there too, if our flight is a midday one.
go thru security etc
then have a look around the shops buy a few magazine's and a bottle of water for the plane
have a drink and buy my boyfr some food(always hungary)
then sit with my drink and watch the planes.
checking the boards all the time incase something changes. i drive my boyfr mad when were at the airport
maybe a little different as im flying from humberside and ther arn't many planes as the larger airport but i;m stil excited
checking the boards all the time incase something changes. i drive my boyfr mad when were at the airport
My hubby thinks I'm crazy for doing this too. I also love to see where the other planes are bound for; who looks like they may be on our flight I think it just adds to the excitement.
im a nightmare looking at the boards!! i also go round duty free asking if they have got any free samples of perfumes, then i can have a choice of up to date perfume's i want to wear on hol without breaking bank or taking up room in suitcase as the sample bottles are tiny they wont take up much room and you wont have no fear of having your fave expensive bottle of perfume broke!! im not tight by the way!!!!
Hey that's a good idea, I never thought about that. I usually come out of duty free gasing everyone because I've got 20 different fragrances in - of course there is now way of remembering which one out of those 20 is my chosen favourite so it's all a bit pointless really. I never even thought of asking for samples.
get through check in and passport control, go for brekkie as we normally go for the early flights, then wander round the shops, into smiths for magazines for kids and sweets and drinks, toilet duties then sit and wait at the gate, oh the joys
Go straight through passport control
Stop in at WHSmith to get a magzine for the plane
Browse duty free (and usually buy nothing!!)
Have a bite to eat, cup of tea or a couple of drinks (depending on the time of day)
Then just keep watching the board to see when we're leaving......
Check in as quickly as possible. Head straight through to departures to get the security checks out of the way. Buy a couple of magazines and a newspaper, try on a few perfumes in the duty free shop. Next stop some food, and a couple of pints . Had a row off hubby one year for checking the tv screens constantly, so the year after I thought right leave it up to him!!! What a mistake. I'd just sat down to have a sweet pee, after the beer, only to hear our names being called for immediate boarding As you can imagine nothing is ever left to hubby anymore!!!!
It was always my tradition whatever the time to head for the bar and have a beer.
Yes you can sandc. We travelled to Turkey from Cardiff few weeks ago. Arrived in airport at 5am, and went more or less straight to the bar.
I see airports as timeless. Once you've checked in you are on holiday time.
Sand C. We once asked for the bar to be opened at 2.30 am. You should have seen the rush when the barman appeared
Flew out of Gatwick North a couple of weeks ago and we had a couple of pints at 4 in the morning, - most civilised.
I am flying out form manchester-malaga 03 august, I will arrive 3 hours before, check in, and spend 150 quid on perfume/cosmetics in duty free, then we will have a drink or 2 before boarding our flight...wooo hooo cannot wait....
