My step daughter and 2 of her friends booked their first holiday today. Unfortunatly having no experience with kind of thing before they went into travel agents and asked them for advice. (thomas cook)
They were sold a deal half board at the tolmachos hotel in Corfu departing August.
I have just read the reviews on this hotel and it is appalling, and not just on this website. The resort is Dassia which in itself is described as nice, but a relaxing picturesque location, seems suitable for families and couples, but not 3 young women wanting an 18-30 type holiday.
Is there anyway to get it changed without paying a fee? as it seems to me the travel agent mis-sold to them? I dont want to make an ass of myself if I go in there.

You can probably change hotels and maybe resort for a fee - could be around £15 each. We did this once and it was no problem.
I doubt very much if they will do it for nothing, as your step daughter chose the hotel etc, albeit on the suggestion of the staff. It's a bit like going into Asda and asking the checkout operator which kind of breakfast cereal you will enjoy. It's only their opinion and they are just there to sell stuff.

Sorry Bridd, but I must disagree with your ASDA comparison. I agree that a supermarket check-out operative is simply there to scan the ggods and take the money, but if I were to go to the fresh meat or wet fish counter I would expect the butcher/fishmonger there to know their stuff and be able to make recommendations.
Likewise, the whole raison d'etre of a Travel Agent is to arrange holidays and they are supposed to know their subject and make recommendations based on the likes/dislikes & wishes expressed by the customer. I am obviously not privy to what Elvis' step daughter and friends told the travel agent as to what they were looking for, but I am a little surprised at what they ended up with. At that age, the last thing that I would have wanted is half-board in a quiet(ish) resort.
I would recommend that you go to the travel agent and explain the situation and also take copies of the reports on the hotel. Ask that they change the hotel & resort free of charge as you are not happy with the advice given and choice of hotel.
Cheers,
Jet

I agree with you that this should be the situation but it seldom happens. Whenever I have been to a travel agent's shop I have met inexperienced, often young staff who know less about what they are selling than some of their customers. I no longer use travel agents. I know there are some travel agents who are conscientious and will try to fit the product to the customer, but you can't rely on this.

Just a small point to consider. A Travel Agent cannot possibly know every Country, every destination and every hotel. It would be impossible. Most TA use the viewdata system which does not give you any idea of the accommodation in situation, size, reviews etc. Sorry to say this but the research should be done before booking.
I think they will be able to change it but as bridd has said, for a fee.

The TA might not know all the info about resorts etc, but they do have their own "bible" with all the info in, so should have been able to better match young girls with the resort and accommodation, after all, that is part of their job. Ihope they get the changes they want!
