Hi - I've just reserved a room in Greece and the room owner has asked me to pay a deposit via SWIFT and has sent me her bank details. As I usually, just turn up on an island and find a room, this is all new to me (I suppose the 21st century had to hit Greece at some point! ) - anyone ever used SWIFT to pay a deposit abroad? How did you do it and how much did it cost??? I'm looking at 100 euro deposit.
Thanks in advance
You can do the transaction yourself if you do online banking. You are just paying directly from your bank account to their one.
Thanks Fiona - but what about the exchange fee - sterling to euros?
Ignore me - just had a quick look on my online banking and there it was (3 menus in!) "Make an international transfer"! Thanks again!
I did a recent transaction ( but of dollars) and it actually came to less than I had worked out. So the rate I got was really good.
I'm with both NatWest and Nationwide and I can't do an international transfer online with either and they both charge around £20 to do it!
Any info appreciated.
HSBC and it cost £9 for 100 euros!!! so about 10%. Think I'll stick to the turn up and find a room formula in future!
