Bump - sorry Mods - but there MUST be somebody who has stayed here and can give me some idea how close the sights are to each other .. and a reasonable hotel?
Try http://www.tripadvisor.com for hotel information. The majority of reports are from the USA so often tend to be a bit picky but if you search through you eventually get a balanced view
Finally with a lot of reading between the lines, and checking prices on the Greek Tourist Board's website, I've come up with a longish short list of 5, and if anyone knows anything about the following hotels, please let me know on this site. The price is for a double room with breakfast for 2 nights:-
Le Palais 211€
ABC hotel 210€
Anatolia hotel 160€
Orestias Kastorias 130€ but no breakfast
Anatolia hotel 160€
..... now I need to place them on a map and see where they are!! Sadly all my maps have Greek characters for the road names, so I've got a concentrated hour or so's study ahead of me.
Many thanks for your help rdv.
My problem is that our local (just down the road) Ibis charges 75€ per night without breakfast, and I think that even that is steep!!! Perhaps I'm just a miser at heart!
Ataturk's house in one of the most popular places of Salonica.
He was born in Salonica in 1881.
Thanks Istanbul29! Another thing on my Thessaloniki 'to do' list - and I'm very grateful to you for pointing it out.
i've flown to Thessaloniki, as we stayed at Polichrono, it was about an hour drive from thessaloniki
it was a lovely greek village, and we hired a moped and did the penisular, and went to thessaloniki, which we found quite busy, and didn't stay there for long.
good luck in your holiday
Thanks Wicked! I will need to stay in the city for two days, but then will explore the region later on, and will try to include Polichrono in our plans! Your information is much appreciated.
