Flew with Continental from Manchester to New York for 3 nights. Flight very good - no seat back TV's but we enjoy reading so didn't miss it. Landed in Newark airport and took cab to Casablanca hotel due to good reviews on TA. This hotel is virtually in Times Square, reception is on ground floor with lifts to rooms and 2nd floor is Rick's cafe where lounge and meals are served. Breakfast in included in price [continental] all refreshments are free and available 24 hrs, from 5 - 8pm they serve red, white wine and champagne [all complimentary] with selection of cheeses and crackers. OH wasn't too impressed at first - thought it was a bit dingy [ it wasn't], the next morning it was the best thing since sliced bread !!!
Visited Grand Central Station, Central park, Rockefeller Centre, Empire State, Chrysler Building, Ground Zero, shopped. On first night we ate at Tony's diner, next door to hotel and had mussels and a shrimp dish, these were massive so shared them and then rolled into bed. Second night we'd booked for the World Yacht Dinner Cruise, I misread the times and was out shopping on Times Square. When I went back to hotel to get ready, I got the itinery out and it said - boarding at 6, sailing at 7, by this time it as 20 to 6. I've never been ready as fast in my life- it was a case of on with the magic knickers, then frock then warpaint, didn't even have time for shower. we rushed out, got a cab to take us to the pier and were one of the first ones on [we had visions of it going without us]. After all that it was a brilliant night- food was super and the sights were breathtaking. It was a really good night and would do it again but with a bit more time and a shower next time. We had a great time in New York just going in and out of bars and thought it was AWESOME and will return.
Ooooo a trip report!!! Can't wait for the rest of it!
Thanks for posting OAP!

Flew NY - LV with continental, was just ok- burger for meal and that was it. Taxi to meridian suites - off strip, very good security. Checked in and was told - no bar[nearly had to pick OH off the floor- then they told him there was no in room safe ]Then we went to our room he was not amused - had booked a studio but when we got there the balcony looked out over a parking lot and just below were the air con units. Apart from that the room was lovely and we unpacked. When we went to the reception to sort out our safe we said we weren't happy with outlook and they upgraded us to a 1 bed apt overlooking pool- all change again These 4 days at Meridian were super and we didn't want to leave - we bought our own drink and plastic glasses from supermarket (for the pool)and relaxed on the balcony which you can't do in the big hotels.Loads of security here and just about 10 mins from strip, also loads of nice restaurants around that area, loved it. Then it's the Bellagio.
Oooo an new trip report! Enjoying it so far. Looking forward to the rest.
So there were really no safes??? What did you do - did they have safety deposit boxes at reception?
Lesley - safety dep boxes at reception.
Can't wait for Bellagio as hopefully we'll be staying there for some of the time next year.
