we came back from Pernera yesterday and stayed opposite the building work you are talking about. We go to pernera a lot and think it's a shame that they are building houses and apartments on every spare bit of land not only in Pernera - everywhere! I don't think you need worry too much - yes they are building but unless you are unlucky enough to be too close it shouldn't be a problem.
It certainly didn't bother us.
hope you have a great time.

We have also just come back last week from Pernera and stayed at the Paschalia hotel which is opposite the Tsokkos Gardens Apts. As the previous reviewer has said it certainly did not affect us. We've also stayed at these apartments and as far as I could see it would only affect you if you are staying at the end of the complex next to the road, you could possibly ask for an apartment closest to the pool which are not overlooked by the construction, they are building yet more villas. Have to agree that no matter where you walk or look in Pernera every available space is having villas built on, we were last there 3 years ago and we could not believe how much construction has gone on and is going on much to the detrement of Pernera. Don't worry, really don't think it will affect you.
"Used to" being the operative phrase!!
Building on every inch, and houses are only inches apart!! Aaaaarrrrggghhh!!!

Know exactly what you mean - every time we went for a walk the subject of construction came up, never seen so many houses/villas crammed into tiny spaces as what we saw in our two week holiday in Cyprus (all empty and seemingly unsold) -we stayed our first week in Ayia Napa and second in Pernera. They were literally what seemed like inches from one another!! To diversify from the subject of building work we have been going to Cyprus for some 12-15 years now and am going to say like yourself the 'USED' to like word, we had a fairly enjoyable holiday but think it will be quite a while before we go back, the old Cypriot hospitality seems to have gone entirely, food not nearly as good and with the introduction of the euro tourists are staying away and hotels are only quarter full if that. When we arrived at the Paschalia we were told only 40 people were in residence, and about a dozen of those were children! It is becoming a very expensive place to visit. We said after last year that we would try somewhere different until reports of how the euro was affecting the resorts but decided that we might as well spend our money somewhere we love to holiday, but it is simply not the same now, and I am afraid that is it for us personally.
My love affair with Pernera has slowly come to an end - never thought it would after so many visits over the years. I remember the area being fields full of water melons, peppers, vegetables etc but every available piece of land has been sold and turned into concrete boxes most of which seem unoccupied. The coastal road to Paralimni used to be a delight, now its just one estate after another. This isn't progress - the houses will stand like monuments for years to come. Pity the planning authorities cannot see this. The charm of Pernera has now all but gone now - you only have to look at the dire tourist season this year.
It was my first visit to Cyprus, and a very nice place but not likely to go back - would rather spend less to go to a nice part of Greece and also save a fortune in living costs - beaches etc very nice, but no better than parts of Greece.
The costs of food and drink are very high, with the change to Euros - average seemed to be around 3 Euros for a local Keo beer (thats around £2.40 a pint - a lot more for imported beer and cyprus.
I must agree with what someone noted above, regarding the hospitality of the Cypriots. After visiting as few Greek islands I have found them the nicest and friendliest people I have ever met - but could count on one hand the number of friendly Cypriots we met! The waiters, bus drivers etc tended to be very strange - never smiled, quite rude and very blunt. I can understand that they are trying to speak English but it's the way they say it - we found a couple of waiters in restuarants (in Protaras) to be very rude, when we were ordering food (we gave no reason to be like this). Was very surprised and saddened by the way they come across.
Lovely place though, great weather .
I have also recieved a letter from Thomas Cook regarding these works. 4 of us stopping at Tssokos Gardens Apt's (AI) from 6th Aug for 2 weeks. TC do state that the main construction work has been completed and quieter works only now remain, they also stated that if possible we will be given accomodation away from these works (We'll see!)
Not overly concerned though, 1st time to Cyprus and ready for a good break so really do not intend to get all hot 'n bothered about it.
Anyone got any current info for this complex??
Ta.
Slightly off topic but what weather can we expect in early October?
Thanks in advance.

You will really like the Toxotis Hotel Apts in Pernera. I stayed here a few years ago now, and they were very clean then, the staff very helpful, the pool lovely and refreshing, pool bar/food lovely, they did have theme nights including a BBQ night once a week. It overlooks Pernera itself so you shouldn't be affected by any building work. The 1-bed apts are quite spacious, clean bathrooms, clean lounge and a good size bedroom.

Im sure will be happy staying at the Toxotis. While we were in Cyprus the last 2 weeks (we got home on Sunday morning), we hired a car for a day and went to Pernera. I was so shocked at the building work going on. I feel they are building too many properties, and have ruined my happy memories of Pernera. It will be a while before I go back to Pernera, but hopefully back to Napa next year.
Just got back from Pernera. Had fantastic time
Yes lots of places being built but had no affect on our holiday. I just can't see how they are going to sell that many properties
Toxotis fantastic by the way and the most friendly staff we have ever come across.
TF
Glad you had a great time at the Toxotis. When we drove past it, it didn't look as though it changed at all. I even remembered the balcony of the apartment I was in!
