I'd forget the Loch Lomond area and look at this
http://www.macdonaldhotels.co.uk/Aviemore/
You can get to Aviemore by train. There are loads of hotels on the website. If you get on the phone now you will get booked I'm sure. There's loads to do and lovely scenery. Its a compact area so you can see a lot without hiring a car.
I'm confused with what you said about none giving confirmation. Do you mean there is no availability?
If you are stuck, there is a travel agent (Barrhead Travel) just as you come out the arrivals hall at Glasgow airport who will be able to help.
What did you end up doing
I was thinking the same thing - would love to hear where you went and how was the holiday
My guess goes like this =
Thanks everybody for your help and information, had a great holiday staying in Scotland.
I spotted several Haggis running around the hills, and also fed the Loch Ness monster.
I also went SCUBA diving in the warm tropical crystal clear waters of Loch Lomond, and observed the numerous brightly coloured fish among the coral reef.
The highlight was meeting the clan chief Rob Roy MacGregor and his good pals William Wallace and Rob Roy while I was shopping in Glasgow, they even presented me with a Skean Dhu letter opener as a small momento.
Well that is my guess anyway
Anybody else have any ideas how unique73 got on here ?

Sorry it took me so long to come back and give you details on how it all ended up"¦ but first let me thank each and everyone of you for your wonderful advises and assistance all of which were truly helpful.
I arrived at Glasgow took a night at the Ramada Airport and went to the Airport Tourist Office. They recommended a cottage at Balloch.
Next morning, took the train from Glasgow Central Station to Balloch (amazing place) but the cottage was not that good although it was 4 stars rated next day we checked in the "tigh an uisge" (The water house) which was extremely good.. we stayed in Balloch for 3 nights and enjoyed the Loch Lomond area took the cruise and enjoyed the fresh air and amazing nature.
Then we went to Glasgow and stayed there for 4 nights during which we took a day bus tour to the highlands (8:00 am to 8:00 pm) to Loch Niece and another day we went to Edinburgh for a day visit.
I loved Scotland and would certainly go again, I particularly liked the people (so helpful and polite) and also loved the weather (I was lucky there was plenty of sunshine). The shopping in Glasgow really impressed my wife"¦food was extremely good. Night life was WAAAAW I loved a place called the Social and the pubs at the merchants city.
Next time I go to Scotland, I would hire a car and hit the highlands and enjoy the beauty of nature for few days and probably stay in Edinburgh rather than Glasgow.
Once again thank you so much. and i am greatful for your help.
Take care
Glad it worked out ok and you had a good stay
Did you take the good weather away with you ? it has been rather miserable here for the last week or so.
Loch Niece
Would that be Loch Ness ?
I'm glad you love Scotland. A good idea to explore the Highlands- there is some spectacular scenery there.
Loch Niece
Spelt as it is pronounced by the Scottish I think.................
No, we would say Ness, (as in mess) even a person with a very broad accent from say Glasgow would would pronounce it as Ness.
I do beg your pardon................I stand corrected!!
I'm wondering if it could have been someone with a "posh" Inverness accent who told you the name as it might actually sound a bit like neice. But its definitely Loch Ness- hope you got a glimpse of the monster
So glad you had a great time and liked the Balloch/Loch Lomond area. There is so much to see and do all over Scotland that one trip is never enough, that's why we go as often as we can.
