hi everyone, have been told to buy a spray containing deet, went to a camping shop & bought one that sys it contains 95% deet but someone has now told me that it might be to strong for the skin & to find one that contains 50% deet ,any advice would be great as i am travelling with 2 children & want to go prepared as it,s our first time , many thanks

you might be better using odomos which you can get everywhere in goa.it does work

I've used 100% Deet product on the skin, fine on my skin but ruined the newly applied nail varnish to my toes!! Not sure I'd use it on children's delicate skin. Odomos has been recommended by friends that live in Goa, it's cheaper too.

yes it sure is it's only about 60p for a good size bottle ....

Hi Dunk

The pills are Resochin -DS (Chloriquine Phosphate).

Take 500mg tablet, ONE A WEEK, 2 weeks before you go,during the holiday and for 2 weeks after you return.

Mine were cheaper than irishcolleens.6 tablets for 6.79rupees.

Wow !!! :yikes I didnt know there was a 'One a week' pill out there !!!!

We're in the same boat as the OP, as in we tend to forget to take our daily tabs. A tab a week sounds brilliant !!! :tup

Colleen, are the tablets mentioned above the same as you take ?? .......... and can they be bought at any Chemists in Candolim ??? Cheers for the heads-up all. :)

Damn !!! :duh I've just spotted you need to start taking them a couple of weeks before you arrive in Goa.

Anybody any idea of the price of these little gems, over here in England ??? Ta.

Knobsy just got the pack out YES its the same tablets and looking at the back of them they cost me 6.79 rupees Rokerender is spot on ......I know it says to take them before you go but we just went stright to the chemist and got them on the first day and took the first one right away ..we have done that a few times now .....now we get a few packs to take home and can start them a week before we go ......colleen

You can buy them at most chemists they also do 250mg so make sure you get the right dose.As irishcolleen says take them as soon as you get there.
I've took them for years and never had any side effects.

Knobsy - they used to cost about £40 a course from UK doctors. Bit cheaper in Goa.

Please note that if you are meant to take them 2 weeks before you go to Goa then you probably are NOT protected no matter how soon you take them after arrival in Goa.

Thanks folks, we`ve got pals going out in november so i`ll get them to bring us some back. I`ll start saving now :rofl :rofl

With all the cases of Malaria being report in Goa now, I think you would be as well to take both the chloroquine and the proguanil, you can buy them over the counter in most chemists, they come in a travel pack called Paludrine/Avloclor. However I would go see your GP first and they will advise you not only on Malaria tablets but also on vaccines as well. We bought both tablets on our last visit to Goa and they were much cheaper, but even if you only buy 1 pack to share as you need to take them 1 week before you go it's better than going unprotected, then you can buy them when you get there.
