Hi there
A bit of advice if possible?
My wife and I are travelling on holiday to USA and Canada later this year - our first trip abroad for some years and certainly the first out of europe. We are very excited!
Originally my wife and I had been planning to get the train from Toronto to New York for the second half of our holiday in a few weeks time. However, we have found the cost of flights to be similar to the cost of the train tickets and that the flight takes only a couple of hours - whereas the train takes about 12 hours.
My question therefore is this: Have any members from the UK travelled into the USA from Canada by air? How easy is this to do with regards to border controls etc? I am assuming that at New York we might get some form of grilling from the officials for this slighhtly odd travel pattern and would have to obviously complete the green visa waiver form upon arrival at Immigration control. As we would be flying in around 9/11 I am expecting security to be extra suspicious anyway.
I am looking at flights from Toronto into LaGuardia and Newark Airports, both at the same price - so if anyone knows the best airport to land at, that would also help.
Thanks for any advice in advance!
You'd have to complete the green visa waiver - but I don't necessarily think you'll get a grilling. Remember how many brits live in the Toronto area - I'm sure there's loads go down to NY on British passports.
LaGuardia is closer, 9 miles or so from midtown or about $35 cab fare. Newark is about 16 miles out from the West Side of Manhattan, cab fare into Manhattan about $50.
