Hello,
We are going to Interlaken for 2 weeks 19 August (revisiting our honeymoon destination of 26 years ago when we enjoyed, amongst other things, going up and down the mountains via cable cars!),we are staying in Bonigen just outside Interlaken this time. I realise that good weather in a mountainous region is certainly not guaranteed. However I am concerned now what day trips we can do if the weather is poor. I now have a mobility problem which restricts a lot of walking.
We have already visited Bern and my husband doesn't fancy visiting Lucerne.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
The Federal Weather Service provide a website in English at http://www.meteoswiss.admin.ch/web/en.html - if you can't get access your next best guide is breakfast time TV, you should find a channel showing weather info and live pictures from resorts around the country.
The local mainline train operator is BLS (in Interlaken) and they have an English site of excurison ideas at http://www.bls.ch/e/reisen-ausfluege/reisen-ausfluege.php - if all else fails the day in Stresa on the "Travel and Enjoyment" section should be fine. If the weather is fine in Wallis and the Goms then a round post-bus/ train trip via Meiringen-Oberwald-Brig-Spiez is worth doing. Postauto have their own site at http://www.postauto.ch/en/index_pag.htm with ideas shown under "Leisure" but not all the regions have pages in English so you may have to click one of the local languages instead.
Thanks for your reply. I guess from what you say that we will in effect have to "follow the weather" and not assume the weather will be the same as our intended destination. We will check out TV weather in the morning and makes plans then. I checked the other websites you listed and have printed out some useful ideas of what to do.
Just a thought but how are you getting to Bonigen and are you on a package or DIY?
