A small explosive device was detonated in La Carihuela district of Torremolinos, near the Hotel Sol Aloho Puerto.....ETA is thought to be responsible.
Looking at the second video, the bomb was planted under the promenade which goes over a natural stream, a few metres after the Sol Aloha Puerto (walking towards to Benalmádena Marina) and directly on the border that separates Torremolinos from Benalmádena.
The tents that you see in the second video are on that stretch of the promenade for the summer season, with various products for sale, including jewellery, pottery and genuine "Croc" shoes.
What a shame, La Carihuela has got to be one of the most "laid back" family orientated resorts that's keeping it's original "fishing" roots and not domineered by the British or British cuisine.
This has upset me It's upset me because it could have been a hell of a lot worse and La Carihuela is a beautiful place on earth, where everybody knows everybody else and a lovely "village" atmosphere still exists on the Costa's.

Thanks for the link Sanji. Far better site than Sur in English which I can no longer navigate since it was redesigned.
s**t just come back from there on Wednesday and as we were stopping a bit further down the promenade this was a stretch which we used every day to go up to Benalmadena and at the night as well................frightening
as you know we were in this area at Easter and walked along there a few times. It's not the sort of place you'd expect a terrorist attack is it?
Personally I wouldn't worry about it, you are more likely to be stabbed by a hoodie if the papers are to be believed.
you are more likely to be stabbed by a hoodie if the papers are to be believed.
but the problem is of course the tourist industry is bound to be affected. Families will be very wary of going there now, even though security will probably be heightened.
If they really wanted to cause injury or indeed death they would be able to do it very easily, a few extra pounds of explosives and away they go.
All we can do is be vigilant in the summer months and try and lead our lives as normal as possible.
When the IRA were bombing London there was a much greater threat to the general populace but people just got on with things, I doubt that atitude would prevail now.
Anyone not coming down here for a holiday or even worse, cancelling a trip already booked, is making a mistake IMHO.
It wouldn't stop me returning, but it must make people more wary of booking. These organisations depend on this happening, and indeed the only way to beat them is to carry on as normal.
I have just read this report, and Im ashamed to say that although I grew up in 'The Troubles' bombings/shootings in Northern Ireland, I am rather nervous about going to CDS on 18th September. It won't stop me going, and the earlier post has allayed my fears slightly by saying ETA never bomb twice in one place and could cause carnage if they wanted to.
Its a shame and disgrace. Will just have to be vigilant and pray!

Go and enjoy your holiday, if I could get a reasonably priced holiday for the end of this month to experience the San Miguel Romeria in Torremolinos again...I'd be on that plane quicker than you could blink...I'm searching everyday.
However, having said that, you should never under estimate ETA and poo poo their current campaign, you just have to be a bit more wary, but that advice applies to anywhere in Spain and with the various other lunatics out there in the world !.
ETA doesn't bomb the same place twice.? well the splinter group that is presently active in Andalucia did just that the second bomb was placed 300 metres from where the first small device exploded the week before, and to suggest that they just want to cause disruption is also not true.
They blew up a hotel in Benidorm which injured many people and I think a retired policeman from Ireland lost his life, the bomb caused considerable damage to the construction of the hotel, and they have planted a bomb in a waste paper basket in the departure lounge of Reus Airport, so whilst I don't wish to frighten anybody and we have to consider the chances of this happening and indeed put it into perspective, one should never dismiss the idea that the present splinter group who are not operating within the main ETA policies and the dialogue between ETA and the Spanish government, that they wouldn't target tourist spots to cause human injuries and misery.
It's the way of the world and the world we all live in, you either become a recluse in your own home or you carry on and have a life.

But everyone understood the post as it was meant to be understood, and that was that if ETA wanted to kill or cause injury as their primary objective they could easily do it, i.e. increase the amount of explosive they use or not give the warnings they do.
The bombs here were tiny.. i live 5 mins walk from the area and didnt even know it had happened.
So anyone thinking of travelling to Spain, try not to be worried or concerned.
If ETA starts blowing up hotels with people in them and not giving any warning thereby injuring hundreds and possibly killing a fair few, then that would be a different story, but as everyone else has pointed out, we just have to try and live our lives as normally as possible and not give into them. Sure the Benidorm incident in 2003 was slightly different in that there were some injuries although cannot confirm one fatality. Now, i know they gave an incorrect warning, and some of the injured were bomb disposal experts, but imagine if they had not used such a small bomb and not given any warning at all? The devastation would have been unimagineable...
This is the point i am making!
So, as Nick and Sue always used to say.. "dont have nightmares, do sleep well" and enjoy your holidays everyone
Am still a bit nervous but will try to relax!
Hi, though it is nothing to do with this area (I have been here before and am going again at xmas)I think I should say that when travelling from Valencia station to Xativa I did not have to go through any screening. On the next platform the train to Madrid everyone's luggage had to be screened. In between these journeys you could change no screening required.
